October 3, 2020 thought for the day: Nothing so visible than what you want to hide. Japanese Proverb
The twins are here for a weekend sleep over. They were up before I was this morning. I am kind of on the rough side until I have fed the dogs and had at least a sip of my cup of tea so they had to wait for some undivided attention.
My hibiscus bush is producing it’s last blooms of the season, and the weather is a perfect early autumn day. It is cool and the sun is bright. So the girls went out with me to cut the four flowers that opened over night. Then Sue took them out for a little fire in the fire pit and a few roasted marshmallows. Next they each wanted me to print graphics for them, one to cut out and one to color. The pictures they wanted were my little pony and a unicorn.
The October 2nd photo a day theme was “funny shape”. I strolled around looking for a “funny” shape. I saw all kinds of shapes, I mean all kinds. Everything has a shape and many unlike any other, something like snowflakes. So I figured most any shape could be considered “funny” in the way of odd, maybe. The one I chose from my neighbor’s yard is so pretty that I wanted to use it. I like the color of the belladonna (or deadly nightshade as it is also called) purple flower and it’s red berries. It is a poisonous plant and is used in making medications. As with many portentously dangerous natural organisms it is beautiful. It is used in the production of atropine and scopolamine.
I don’t have much on the agenda. I want to run the message envelopes to the church and find my photo of the day. That will be about it except for a bit of cooking. I may take some time to work on starting a family Christmas calendar.
The word is neglect. A little neglect may breed great mischief, Benjamin Franklin. Hell is Truth Seen Too Late, Thomas Hobbes. I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do ... let me do it now, William Penn. The book salesman should be honored because he brings to our attention, as a rule, the very books we need most and neglect most, Confucius. Whoso neglects learning in his youth, loses the past and is dead for the future, Euripides. If a man neglects education, he walks lame to the end of his life, Plato. Those vices, luxury and neglect of decent manners, are vices of men, not of the times, Seneca the Younger. How can you expect to dwell with God forever, if you so neglect and forsake him here? Jonathan Edwards. Whoever neglects old friends for the sake of new deserves what he gets if he loses both, Aesop. We are sometimes so busy being good angels that we neglect to be good men and women, Saint Francis de Sales. Time is man's most precious asset. All men neglect it; all regret the loss of it; nothing can be done without it, Voltaire. Neglect mending a small fault and 'twill soon be a great one, Benjamin Franklin.
The photo challenge for today is called “a for sale sign”. When I drive to and from my activities, all relatively close to home (just as a fyi), I usually see all kinds of for sale signs. Some found on closed up service facilities, houses, cars and the old standard yard sales. Since I didn’t have any such signs in my years old archives, I went up and down streets after I dropped the messages off at church. I was flabbergasted by the scarcity of such signs on this date in time. Where did they all go? Or am I thinking of what I see in the summer time when people are apt to be making changes and such.I am not much into sports but some of you may be and today’s article was a touch interesting to me because of the diet side of it. I don’t participate in the vegan way of nutrition either with the exception that vegetables in all vegan diet are important to a well balanced way of eating for all humans. The title today: “Powered by plants, Ohio State’s Fields feeling fast with new vegan diet”. One of the team members said that he switched to a mostly vegan way of eating excluding meat and dairy. Now and then he eats fish but sticks mostly to tofu based meals. He says they don’t always “taste the best” but believes healthy eating is effective to his game. He said he made the diet change while he lived in Georgia with his family when the pandemic began. A member of his family was looking for a way to lose weight. Once they landed on the vegan method the whole family joined in. He feels it has improved his playing career. Recently some of the other OSU players were trying this diet. The article went on to say that managing the meal schedule for the players involves planning from the “nutrition staff”. One of the breakfasts begins with avocado toast or bagel spread with vegan cream cheese. Later, after workouts, plant based protein shakes with fruit are a snack. One player stated that he eats more often due to less calories than in a diet with meat and carbs but isn’t concerned about over eating because of less calories. A coach claimed that some on the diet are leaner and their moves are more efficient.
Can’t make up my mind if I am going to make chili or salmon patties for dinner.
