March 4, 2021 a thought for the day, Never say no due to pride, or yes due to weakness. Puerto Rican Proverb

I got the printing done. I made a typo/misspelling and didn’t notice until the twenty-five copies of the annual report was almost done printing. I had misspelled the word “annual” on the cover page graphic that took me half a day to create. I didn’t know whether to come home to use the tool on my computer to recreate the graphic then go back to reprint (using more color ink and more paper). I decided to let it be. I think the word is spelled correctly in Spanish “anual”. The other printings for today were uneventful. I even had time to chat with Jim for a bit as I worked.

I couldn’t help myself even with my concentration on food due to my diabetes I had to make a stop at White Castle on my way home. Then a drive through Westgate park for a photo excursion.

The photo challenge for March 3 was “c is for....”. I used my soon to bloom Christmas cactus as the subject for this image. It has a two time blooming this year and so close to Easter. I used a filer to give it a “painterly” effect.

I have been wishing for a better connection to one of my grandchildren’s facebook pages. Yesterday I opened my facebook for one of the twice/trice a day checks and it was there! All of the photos of my not-so-near great grandchildren’s photos (we’ve been trying for weeks to discover the problem). I spent about an hour drooling over the parts of their lives that I have been missing.....thanks to their mom for posting those moments. I have a fictional-type of day dream, that I could somehow unobstructively hover over all of my great grand children every hour of every day just to watch them grow, to “take part” from afar of their growing up lives. I just want to watch, just for the heart melting knowledge that they are of my blood, of the family God gave to me. Jessie has recently been sending me photos but there are still more on the facebook page. I know there are lots of people and talk about how “bad” facebook can be. But I don’t see it that way. If people think before they write or share something that can be seen by unplanned persons it can be a delightful way to keep up with family and friends and to see parts of the world we would otherwise never see. Just sayin’.

Now I have to get on with the laundry and other computer “business”.

The word today is short.  The best mirror is an old friend, George Herbert. The language of friendship is not words but meanings, Henry David Thoreau. There is no royal road to learning; no short cut to the acquirement of any art, Anthony Trollope.  Apothegms (instructions) form a short cut to much knowledge, Thomas Hood.  We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals, Immanuel Kant. It's not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it, Seneca the Younger. Those who make the worst use of their time are the first to complain of its shortness, Jean de la Bruyere.  Life is long if you know how to use it. Seneca the Younger. There is no shortcut to holiness; it must be the business of our whole lives, William Wilberforce.  The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark, Michelangelo. Short as life is, we make it still shorter by the careless waste of time, Victor Hugo. Anger is a short madness, Horace. A proverb is a short sentence based on long experience, Miguel de Cervantes.  A short saying often contains much wisdom, Sophocles. To go beyond is as wrong as to fall short, Confucius. Most of the people who will walk after me will be children, so make the beat keep time with short steps, Hans Christian Andersen.

Todays photo theme is “d is for....” After some thought and since I was out and about I went by the park and found that a group of ducks were waiting for me and my cell phone camera. I used a motion blur filter on the back ground to bring more attention to the ducks and to give the image a bit of mystery.

This is an interesting subject and controversial about the climate and how to live with it.  The article is talking about the Climate Action Plan for Columbus. This plan takes into account the changing climate and how to keep the climate “crisis from getting worse by lowering our carbon emissions”. A fact from the article is that Ohio is the 14th largest city in the country and  is the sixth-highest carbon-emitting state. The plan has set some strategies and goals with thirteen “action” items in five sections: Climate Solutions, Neighborhoods, Buildings, Transportation and Waste. According to the article 38% of the harmful carbon omissions are from vehicles. According to the article the proposed plan as it stands now isn’t strong enough. Moving on in the article, the carbon footprint of buildings can be reduced by  efficiency upgrades, using less energy, and renewable energy methods. Home owners as well as businesses can help with the building energy upgrades, solar methods being one mentioned. The article stated that transportation emissions aren’t as high as building emission but are growing. Ways of helping this type of emission are people using public transportation, making buses and other heavy duty vehicles electric, and smaller automobiles also using more electric instead of gas. If more electric vehicles where in use more parking spots with chargers could be made available. Other areas to control energy emissions are recycling, reduced food waste, transit development, zero carbon fleets, and the new Urban Forestry Master Plan. The Climate Action Plan for Columbus doesn’t include some area that could be added to the plan that should be considered. Green space and community gardens. The article stated that “We can’t let development cut down our trees and plow under our green space.” Cleveland Ohio has a special zoning designation for community gardens which Columbus should consider. We should also consider rooftops that are not “eligible for solar panels into green roofs (...constructing green space live grassy area and gardens on roof tops)”.

I think we are having baked Tilapia for dinner tonight.
