May 1, 2023 a thought for today, At the bottom of the lighthouse it is dark. Japanese Proverb
The first upload for yesterday, the last day for the April images, was “a pop of color”. It’s always fun to look for these images....a pop of color I mean. It pushes us to look around and see all the bright colors along with all the other “normal” sights that add to our visions of art all around us in colors, shapes, and so much more.I was able to get the complete bulletin done this morning. I had the minister’s part early this week. That lets me get it all done with in an hour and a half or so. I was even able to find am earlier copy of the lyrics for the anthem we will be singing on Sunday so that is done for the printing too.
I got some work done on setting up my photo a day data storage for the month of May. I don’t have a lot on the agenda for the rest of the day. This is one of the weeks that I don’t have each day filled with activities.
This upload for yesterday was “your (my) choice”. When they cut the tree down in my yard a few days ago, this wind chime was hanging on one of the limbs. Someone took it down and laid it in a puddle of water. I rescued it and hung it in the window. I decided to use it for my choice today.Lowell is taking Bob for another medical test today. So Bob is off work today.
The weather is very un-spring like today. We may even have a snow flake or two by the end of the day.
The first upload for today and for this new month is “I am....”. In this selfie it appears that I am playing hide and seek. The word for today is intelligence. To certain people a man of intelligence is a more awkward customer than the most avowed rogue. Georg Christoph Lichtenberg. Character is higher than intellect. Ralph Waldo Emerson. Small minds are concerned with the extraordinary, great minds with the ordinary. Blaise Pascal. Intelligence must follow faith, never precede it, and never destroy it. Thomas a Kempis. The intellect is always fooled by the heart, Francois de la Rochefoucauld. The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled. Plutarch. Ignorance is bold and knowledge reserved. Thucydides. It is good to rub and polish our brain against that of others. Michel de Montaigne. One thought fills immensity. William Blake. To think well and to consent to obey someone giving good advice are the same thing. Herodotus. God has placed no limits to the exercise of the intellect he has given us, on this side of the grave. Francis Bacon. Do you not see how necessary a world of pains and troubles is to school an intelligence and make it a soul? John Keats. Intelligence and courtesy not always are combined; Often in a wooden house a golden room we find. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow .
The other upload for today is “my choice” . In this group for this month every day will be a free choice. I may use some of my favorite images from my large archives. This one was taken at the Historical Center on the Ohio State Fair Grounds. This is a light-hearted story about yarn and one use that surprises people. It was a story on BPS Columbus Neighborhoods. There is a “yarn bomber” in Clintonville. Here is a bit of a description of this “unique” project: “for several years (there) has (been) adorned the telephone poles and road signs of Columbus’ free-spirited north side neighborhood with fiber art creations ranging from silly to serious......yarn bombs are whimsical artistic installations, often put up surreptitiously under the cover of darkness”. Once one appeared on the scene others were encouraged to follow suit. Out of the fun came a Facebook page called Bee’s Knees Yarn Bombs where knitted and crochet work can be seen. It began when this craft was started by an 8-year-old by a “grandmother” teaching crochet with the start of the chain stitch. That later became training in knitting and needlepoint. The original artist of this adventure was laid off a job. After not finding anything to keep busy they saw a “yarn bombing” in Yellow Springs. That planted a seed. It was something to do, something that helped fill the roaming around aimlessly looking for something to fill the need to be productive. The first piece was crochet and placed on a near by telephone pole. The first design was done in portions, a little one night with another section added to it the next night. The designs grew into different colors and different stitch variations. There were themed ones for the Forth of July, one for Halloween then by Christmastime there was a twelve -foot tin soldier done in yarn to be displayed in the neighborhood. Some people complained and report it to 311 causing “art pieces” to be removed. A permit can be issued for the art to be displayed for a period of two weeks. There is a way to request one of these pieces to be placed on private property. There was one point when a young person took an interest in one of the design and wanted to learn to crochet, then began taking classes. Other children joined in and “granny squares” were soon piling up ready to add to more and new Yarn Bombs.
I’m thinking a quick air fry dinner tonight...beer battered fish or chicken fires.
