April 5, 2021 a thought for today, Today is the scholar of yesterday. English Proverb
It's been a pretty uneventful morning. A little bit of a let down after such a wonderful Easter day and all its life’s motion tucked away in the bank of memories. It amazes me at the little things we learn about other people, and ourselves as far as that’s concerned, with every opportunity for person on person contact. By my time in life you would think there wasn’t much to learn in the way of behavior in human nature but there is and it gets amazing and exciting as one bit of knowledge attaches to another to build yet another way of seeing things.
On April 4 the photo a day theme was “fence”. I was early for bible study and church so I drove around the church neighborhood (and a few more after church) and took photos of the many kinds of fences I was able to find. This one had more interest in the full image than most of the others. This being Monday I did some work on the bulletin. I have it ready for the bit of added information I customarily need to complete it.
I was a little disappointed yesterday because I hadn’t heard the outcome of a couple of projects I had worked on over the week end. By evening all my angst disappeared. I got the answers I was looking for. Everything is working like I hoped it would.
One of my two photo a day challenges for today is“balloon”. Welllll....I don’t have a balloon in the house....and there are none in the air....soooo. I went to my archives. A few years ago there was a balloon festival at Beulah Race Track Park. I attended and got some marvelous shots. The “challenge” for me was to find all of the shots I took that day. When I cataloged them, I didn’t keyword them with “balloon” and I couldn’t recall the date so that I could enter that in the search. So it was a “blind” search, guessing at a probable date...hurrah.... I found them
I think Spring is really making its way here. It seems to be raising the spirits of many since we have been dealing with the obstacles and fears of this past year of the pandemic. Flowers are beginning to color the landscape and add to the effects of the sun.
The word today is sun. Purposes, plans, and achievements of men may all disappear like yon cloud upon the mountain's summit; but, like the mountain itself, the things which are of God shall stand fast for ever and ever. Charles Sturgeon. He who binds to himself a joy Does the winged life destroy; But he who kisses the joy as it flies Lives in eternity's sun rise. William Blake. Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face. Victor Hugo. Behold, my friends, the spring is come; the earth has gladly received the embraces of the sun, and we shall soon see the results of their love! Sitting Bull. Sweet is the memory of distant friends! Like the mellow rays of the departing sun, it falls tenderly, yet sadly, on the heart. Washington Irving. The day, water, sun, moon, night - I do not have to purchase these things with money. Plautus. My sun sets to rise again. Robert Browning. This most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being. Isaac Newton. The sun, too, shines into cesspools and is not polluted. Diogenes. We sleep, but the loom of life never stops, and the pattern which was weaving when the sun went down is weaving when it comes up in the morning. Henry Ward Beecher. Stand a little less between me and the sun. Diogenes. Men shut their doors against a setting sun. William Shakespeare.
The second photo of the day photo is “textures”. I went back to the archives again. I found a shot I had taken of the stone fireplace in my grandson and granddaughter’s house. I wanted to show more texture than what was in the stone/bricks alone. So I generated a composite and added a base of Iris flowers in the corner of the shot. The article today is about some things new and interesting in Grove City. The article header says “Grove City Welcome Center and Museum reopens; train-depot project nears completion”. The Grove City Welcome Center and Museum was scheduled to reopen in April but as with, many events, it was postponed due to the pandemic. Now they hoped to be reopened late in March. Visitors will be welcomed to browse among the collection of “artifacts and memorabilia” about the history of the Beulah Park racetrack among it its other memorabilia. Now that the racetrack is gone there is a “Beulah Park Living”area. Apparently the museum was able to open briefly in October but had to close again. During that short period, there were more than a hundred visitors. When they are able to fully reopen, the hours will be 10am to 8pm Tuesdays and 10am to 4pm Wednesday through Friday; with more open time during the Grove City Farmers market in the spring on Saturdays. While they were closed during the pandemic the museum has been “spruced up”. Fresh painting, new drapes, floor coverings and furniture all to look more like a parlor in the late 19th and early 20th century. The building that houses the museum was originally a bank building. The “former” vault is one of the display areas. The conference room features local school memorabilia. More artifacts are located on the upper level. Another restoration going on in Grove City is a circa-1884 train depot. It is in the Century Village. The depot was originally located at Front and Park street in downtown Grove City and was moved to the Village in 2018. Also, located in the Century Village are variety of other historic buildings. The original depot was where visitors and new residents arrived. It was where household items would be delivered, a “kind of FedEx or UPS of the 19th century”. There is a plan to dedicate the depot during the fall harvest event in October.
I am making spaghetti for dinner.
