May 5, 2021 a thought for today: Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness; And every tomorrow a vision of hope; Look well, therefore, to this day. Traditional Proverb
I surprised myself this week. I got the bulletin, the message (for Saturday evening) and the bible study copy (for Saturday evening) and the envelopes all done yesterday. All things necessary just happened to fall into place at one time. I got the information I needed from three different sources all at one time. Usually I don’t get them done until Wednesday since I have to wait for one or the other emails to come in. So that means a more relaxed day than I expected for today.
The photo challenge for yesterday was “something colorful”. I have a basket full of all colors of yarn so that seemed like the most reasonable chose to fit this theme. It’s predicted that we will be having rain every day this week. I like rain but not every day. When there are pets involved it seems there is more of a effort to make them comfortable throughout a rainy day.
The rain has also meant a drop in temperature so it was back to a sweatshirt instead of a short sleeved blouse.
I decided to “sleep in”, if you can call it that, for about half an hour later than I usually do. I got the pets out and fed and started on the virtual visits then a bright light popped up on my cell phone....a virtual visit phone call from Lexie and Drew (and Jessie). What a nice way to start the day.
I have two photos of the day for May 5. The fist one was “a floral with a shallow depth of field”. A veryfew of my “garden” flowers are beginning to bloom. This is the first iris to show it lovely self.
Then I worked on getting the frig tidied up a bit and unloaded the dish washer.
The word today is uncertain. The future is no more uncertain than the present. Walt Whitman. Reputation is only a candle, of wavering and uncertain flame, and easily blown out, but it is the light by which the world looks for and finds merit. James Russell Lowell. Every possession and every happiness is but lent by chance for an uncertain time, and may therefore be demanded back the next hour. Arthur Schopenhauer. Gain may be temporary and uncertain; but ever while you live, expense is constant and certain: and it is easier to build two chimneys than to keep one in fuel. Benjamin Franklin. Raising children is an uncertain thing; success is reached only after a life of battle and worry, Democritus. Truth is confirmed by inspection and delay; falsehood by haste and uncertainty. Tacitus. All that lies betwixt the cradle and the grave is uncertain, Seneca the Younger. Liberty lends us her wings and Hope guides us by her star, Charlotte Bronte. All human things hang on a slender thread, the strongest fall with a sudden crash, Ovid. Even the best-natured people, if uninstructed, are always blind and uncertain. We must take pains to instruct ourselves so that ignorance makes us neither too timid nor too bold, Madeleine de Souvre, marquise de Sable.
Today’s photo theme is “someone I love”. I took some photos of my sister as she was getting her breakfast but decided I shouldn’t use them out on the web. So I took some shots of my other two loves. This is a neat project for kids, for anyone to try. This article is about young people taking part in composting and experiencing the process and benefits of food-waste recycling. Kids that Compost (KTC) is a group that was formed in 2019 in Grandview. At the start of the project it was believed that young people are concerned about the environment and could use their energy to help in this way. They can help their home, community and schools with this effort. The organizer of the project reached out to see if Grandview could start a curbside food waster recycling program. According to the article Bexley already has a similar program in effect. In order to get feed back and to make a start a door to door campaign was begun. The founder of the program enlisted young people for this process. Since the start up two years ago other communities and neighborhoods have joined the effort. Information is provided to interested people about how composting is good and valuable. Central Ohio residents can sign up for weekly curbside pick up of food wastes. For twenty dollars a month KTC provides residents a recycling container with liner for food waste and arranges for a weekly pick up and replacement liners. The food is collected by GoZero, taken to a composting facility where it is converted to soil. To this point in time two hundred and fifty people have signed up for this program. Some of the youth in the program were interviewed and some of the comments were how this process can make a better earth and healthier life. Some of them said they were composting in their backyard as were their grandparents in their yards. They also mentioned that food waste in landfills is toxic. There was a compost drive held in April where the youth volunteer gave out buckets of compost that the community brought to take back to their gardens. I am including a website for information on how to learn more and how to contact the KTC organization in this area. https://kidsthatcompost.org/contact-us/
I think we will have chili tonight.....was going to fix it last week but changed my mind at the last minute.

Here’s one of my discards. This one adds some red on the used and trashed bottle along with some green separated with a diagonal line, an earth tone of gray color and texture for the background.
