July 4, 2021 a thought for today, In the midst of our mirth some annoyance always arises to vex us. Latin Proverb

We are still in the process of overcoming the effects of the lightening strike at the church. We haven’t got the computers back in functional operation. It is taking time to get everything lined up for repairs. Actually we are still noticing one thing or another that was affected. So in the mean time we are working things out in a “backdoor” fashion.

Yesterday’s theme was “air”. Have you ever tried to make a photo of air? I thought of smoke rising against a black back ground or maybe steam. My best model for the day was one of my wind chimes. It’s purpose uses air to complete the musical sound.

We had our traditional offer of a free meal on Saturday evening at church back inside for the first time since the pandemic began. We had a low turn out but those who did come seemed to be glad we were all back to sitting down together and having a warm family style meal.

Someone was using fireworks for over an hour, more like two hours, straight last night. I like the celebration of important holidays but like much else in life it can be over done. It feels like someone doesn’t use the gift given them of common sense and respect for others. I expect more of the same tonight.

Bible study and the church service were great today. It is so good to have things moving back to “normal” especially the way we participate in the “passing of the peace” with a closer connection to each other at that point in the service.

The weather is sunny today and is heading back to summer high temps.

On the way home from church I made a circle of the park for photos and then headed home. The rest of the day it going to be laid back and relaxed.

The word for today is brake.  Laws are like cobwebs, which may catch small flies, but let wasps and hornets break through. Jonathan Swift. If the machine of government is of such a nature that it requires you to be the agent of injustice to another, then, I say, break the law. Henry David Thoreau. If it were not for hopes, the heart would break. Thomas Fuller. Habit is a cable; we weave a thread of it each day, and at last we cannot break it. Horace Mann. When you encounter difficulties and contradictions, do not try to break them, but bend them with gentleness and time. Saint Francis de Sales.  Sit in reverie and watch the changing color of the waves that break upon the idle seashore of the mind. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening. Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.  I desire no future that will break the ties with the past. George Eliot. The bow kept taut will quickly break, kept loosely strung, it will serve you when you need it. Phaedrus. It is easier to prevent bad habits than to break them, Benjamin Franklin.  If this world could only grasp the power of forgiveness. Being able to forgive someone breaks the cycle of bitterness and vengeance, James Augustus St. John.   A single twig breaks, but the bundle of twigs is strong. Tecumseh. He that cannot forgive others breaks the bridge over which he must pass himself; for every man has need to be forgiven. Thomas Fuller. Thaw with her gentle persuasion is more powerful than Thor with his hammer. The one melts, the other breaks into pieces. Henry David Thoreau.  Ambition breaks the ties of blood, and forgets the obligations of gratitude. Sallust.

The theme for today is “drink”. That’s a wide open subject and could be imaged as any number of types of drinks....mine today is my typical iced tea.

I don’t know much about other cities in the US but it seems to me Columbus Ohio keeps up with growth and improvements as time passes. Here’s another article supporting that possibility in thought. Of course the newest addition to the Arena District is the “Lower Field”.  The article reminded that the growth has expanded “three-fold” since it began twenty-one years ago. Moving forward there are some obstacles to be ironed out. According to the article the Arena District has grown from 75 acres to more than 200 acres with three major sports venues. “More than 1,100 residences and 75 businesses call the district home”.There are still several vacant lots in the works to be developed. Next to the Chipotle headquarters there is a 150-unit apartment building planned. On a 1 ½ acre site at West Spring and Hanover Street there is a plan for a condominium to be built “akin to the Condominiums at North Bank Park and Parks Edge”. There will be some construction across from the new stadium. Work on Astor Park will include a five-story office building, large parking garage and two apartment buildings with 440 apartments. The Municipal Light and Power Plant across from the stadium is underway. As mentioned earlier there are areas of contention to worked out as further plans take place for some of the rest of space around the areas mentioned. One of the obstacles to be worked out is some of the space blocked by railroad lines.

Well, its Taco Bell, KFC, or Subway for dinner tonight.

Joy

Teeny weeny blue cap left lost and alone to rest on the rough textures of pebbles, cement and grunge after its service had ended.
