July 6, 2021 a thought for today, Fortune and misfortune live in the same courtyard. Russian Proverb

Yesterday we were invited to Mick and Kim’s house for an Independence Day cook out and visit with family. It was beautiful, just what I needed, to see two of my great grand babies and my grandson and grand daughter-in-law. Along with my two sons and my daughter-in-law and my sister plus one of Mick’s friends, Dillon and his wife, and Louann to round out the gathering.  It was comfortable and family.

One of yesterday’s photo themes was “open”. As I was out and about and thinking of the theme I remembered the gate at the tennis court was open most of the time so I headed that way. Sure enough it was partially open so that was my model for this photo.

Today started out as usual for a Tuesday. I started on the bulletin on Monday as I always do. I got the rest of the information I needed late last night so I completed it the first thing this morning.  I was almost through with that project when I got a visual call from more of my family, two more great grand babies and my grand daughter-in-law, another family comforting few minutes. These two of my babies have been sick the last few days, it was good to see that they were on the mend.

Sue had been wanting to run a couple of errands so I thought this was the best day this week to do that. So as soon as the bulletin was uploaded to be proof read we started on a round of stops.

The second photo theme for today was “chairs”. As I drove through the neighborhood I was on the outlook for some unusual or attractive chairs on the porch or in the yards.

Once home I checked on something I had planned for tomorrow. Sweet Pea has needed a bath for a while. I am not able to do that any more so I have been checking around to see where best to have it done. I thought I had it planned for tomorrow at the vets. When I called to confirm I found that the groomer was booked up for the next two weeks so those plans were changed. Back to the drawing board to find a new place to take her for a bath. I made some more calls but no definite plans yet. I will get back on the phone tomorrow to see what I can arrange.

The word today is bright. The future is as bright as the promises of God. William Carey. He that has light within his own clear breast May sit in the centre, and enjoy bright day: But he that hides a dark soul and foul thoughts Benighted walks under the mid-day sun; Himself his own dungeon. John Milton.  Do not look at stars as bright spots only. Try to take in the vastness of the universe. Maria Mitchell.  The lamp burns bright when wick and oil are clean. Ovid. Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars; in the heavens, you have made them bright, precious and fair. Francis of Assisi. Young men, trust God, and make the future bright with blessing. Old men, trust God, and magnify him for all the mercies of the past. Charles Spurgeon.  If you have done terrible things, you must endure terrible things; for thus the sacred light of injustice shines bright. Sophocles.  Absences are a good influence in love and keep it bright and delicate. Robert Louis Stevenson. Character must be kept bright as well as clean. Philip Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield.  There are moments of life that we never forget, which brighten and brighten as time steals away. James Gates Percival.  'Tis sweet to know there is an eye will mark our coming, and look brighter when we come. Lord Byron.

Today’s photo challenge is “gold”. I was in the store this morning and planned to look for something gold but got though the store and was on my way home when I remembered that I had forgotten to get the photo shot. Then I thought about two churches close to my home that had bell towers. I remembered seeing church bells in the past that had a golden cast as the sun shined on them. I passed by the one and the bell was hard to spot behind some ornamental work on the outside of the tower. So I moved on to the next. That bell is quite prominent but was tarnished so the true color was obscured. I made the shot. When I pulled them up in the Photoshop darkroom I felt that I could give the bell just a hint of the golden sheen.

When my children were growing up we didn’t always have a second car. So while my husband was at work I would walk where ever I wanted to go and have the kids, three of them (sometimes under five years old), walk with me. About every two weeks or so we would walk to the library, about six blocks from the house. I wanted them to be exposed to the world of learning that the library offered. The library kept adding things that could be borrowed, like VCR tapes when they were available. Later on computer equipment. They keep growing in their offers to the community. This article is about some of the things the library is offering these days. The library gave out “adventure kits” during the stay at home of the pandemic. They included camping gear, sewing machines and telescopes. There are “automobile code readers to diagnose problems and jump starters”. I learned from the article that the is light therapy to check out for dark winter days.  There is a “three-branch system” that will be loaning picnic blankets for people outdoor story time at the Northwest branch. The Grandview Heights Library has “27 nontraditional items for checkout. Guitars, binoculars, and driver-training cones. I learned from the article that the Library has a Culture Pass program. This program lets people use their library card for passes to places like the art gallery, the zoo, Franklin Park Conservatory, National Veterans Memorial and the Ohio History Center. The library at Westerville lends visual art pieces for a 28 day time period. The Southwest library loans bike cable locks at the Westland branch. The Southwest and the Delaware County Libraries offers items to assist in cases of dementia or memory loss issues. Delawate loans a Memory Care Collection which includes, conversion and reminisce cards, dexterity and painting activities and coloring books. They also offer projects for young people interested in science, art, engineering and math. Southwest also offers similar boxes with the memory activities for different levels of memory loss. The Upper Arlington offers Discovery kits with books, games and toys with themes for telling time, money and dinosaurs. The library offers “healing kits” to help kids and adults work through difficult situations. They load things like WiFi hotspots, some even offer Chromeboks or laptops to be checked out. Property owners help to support these loans with their taxes and Ohio the state supports public libraries. Anyone can join the public library.

It’s going to be hot dogs and roasted potatoes for dinner to night.
