May 2, 2022 a thought for today, The lotus root may be severed, but its fibered threads are still connected. Chinese Proverb

I got the outside of the bulletin done so that I have a start on it. The rest of the information that I need will come via email today or tomorrow morning I hope.

My  photo of the day challenge for yesterday was “this is me”. I was glancing upward when I created the selfie. I am not a fan of photos of myself so I wanted to make it a little different.

The church service yesterday was not uplifting for me as it usually is, so it didn’t help start the week off with a restorative feeling. The pastor is a very nice person but, for me and in my opinion, very unimaginative, if I may, in presentation. I need something more to lift in spirit. A lesson in how our lives can and should parallel the real purposes of living as they were two thousand years ago even with the differences we have been given to live with. I can’t grasp how the message helps us when it comes based solely in that period in time and not connecting it with the thousand of years that have passed.

To keep you up to date I am still begging rides, my wonderful friends and family haven’t gotten tired of me yet, at least they haven’t shown it yet.

I need to spend some time in the kitchen today before Lowell picks me up. We are going on another visit to see what we can do about a car.

My photo a day activities have taken a bit of a turn....one of the clubs is taking a hiatus from the daily challenges until the fall. So I will be seeking photos for one group rather than two for now.

The word today is sun.  Sunlight fell upon the wall; the wall received a borrowed splendor. Why set your heart on a piece of earth...? Seek out the source which shines forever. Rumi.  Do not anticipate trouble, or worry about what may never happen. Keep in the sunlight, Benjamin Franklin. What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. These are but trifles, to be sure; but scattered along life's pathway, the good they do is inconceivable. Joseph Addison. But friendship is precious, not only in the shade, but in the sunshine of life, and thanks to a benevolent arrangement the greater part of life is sunshine. Thomas Jefferson. Kindness is the sunshine in which virtue grows. Robert Green Ingersoll. The day, water, sun, moon, night - I do not have to purchase these things with money, Plautus. Nature is pitiless; she never withdraws her flowers, her music, her fragrance, and her sunlight from before human cruelty or suffering, Victor Hugo. Now is the time to unite the soul and the   world. Now is the time to see the sunlight dancing as one with the shadows, Rumi. In the same way the sun never grows weary of shining, nor a stream of flowing, it is God's nature to keep His promise, Charles Spurgeon.  In every person there is a sun. Just let them shine, Socrates.

The photo a day theme for today is “good morning”. Just opening the door and taking a peak outside starts the day. This one was clear and quite belied by the soft shadows, blue sky and newly "born" green leaves...perfect spring morning.

This is a little history about our zip codes, according to a group here in Columbus called “Curious Cbus”. There are some interesting fact and history found in these stories. This one is about how Ohio State got the zip code 43210. “Is it used for marketing campaigns....or coincidental”. After some research it was learned that it is not a coincident. It is a countdown. Now comes a little history. Zip (Zone Improvement Plan) codes came about in the US in 1963. Many cities had “two-digit codes that correlated to different parts of the cities”. Further in the article it was mentioned that zone codes were first introduced in 1943".  The problem was to people sorting the mail “ Birmingham 11 and Burlington 11 probably looked a little too similar”. Adding a “formulaic five-digit zip code improved accuracy of mail sorting and....greatly improved the speed of delivery”. Now some explanations, the first digit in a zip code is the regional number, 0-9 moving East to West. The number 4 is Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan and Indiana. After that Ohio was assigned a two-number code, 3, 4, or 5.Columbus was 32. Before zip codes there were zone codes, downtown Columbus was 15. The zone code for Ohio State’s post office was 10...hence 4 is for Ohio. 32 is for Columbus. 10 is for the zone code of the university. 43210.

I have a busy afternoon so it may be each of us on our own for dinner tonight.
