May 8, 2022 a thought for today, The trees want to remain quiet, but the wind will not stop. Chinese Proverb

I expected more people at church today. I think we had even less than in the past few weeks. The message was good and passing of the peace was like sunshine today, more people went from pew to pew to welcome others.

The photo a day for May the 7th was “a view from here”. I was waiting for lunch when this arrangement of shapes and colors drew my eye.

I think everyone was taking their mothers to McDonalds and White Castle at noon today. Bob picked me up at church. We were going to stop at either one but both had lines around the building so we decided to try Wendy’s....success.

I took the first steps to putting my house plants out for the spring and summer. I went to the garage to find the shelf I put them on for the “vacation”. Got it set up. It will take a couple of days of so to move every thing out.

Think I’ll take the rest of the day off and just enjoy the sunshine.

The photo a day for today is “love”. This one always fits that title easily.

The word today is time. Time stays long enough for anyone who will use it, Leonardo da Vinci.  Yet, taught by time, my heart has learned to glow for other's good, and melt at other's woe. Homer. Here or henceforward it is all the same to me, I accept Time absolutely, Walt Whitman.  An age builds up cities: an hour destroys them, Seneca the Younger.  How noiseless falls the foot of time! William Spencer.  You may ask me for anything you like except time, Napoleon Bonaparte. Patience and time do more than strength or passion, Jean de La Fontaine. Time is a created thing. To say 'I don't have time,' is like saying, 'I don't want to, Lao Tzu. Time flies over us, but leaves its shadow behind, Nathaniel Hawthorne. Time ripens all things; with Time all things are revealed; Time is the father of truth, Francois Rabelais. There is more time than life, Mexican Proverb.  Time is the wisest counselor of all, Pericles. The present time has one advantage over every other – it is our own, Charles Caleb Colton. As if you could kill time without injuring eternity, Henry David Thoreau.  Time, the devourer of everything, Ovid. Time heals griefs and quarrels, for we change and are no longer the same persons. Neither the offender nor the offended are any more themselves, Blaise Pascal. Time discovers truth. Time heals what reason cannot, Seneca The Younger.

One of the groups I belong to has taken a hiatus from the photo a day challenges but is still accepts photos from members of the group. This one was taken along with the one above. I added a textured overlay.

Ohio has offered much to the history of this country. Here is a story about the wives of presidents from Ohio. “Ohio, sometimes known as “The Mother of Presidents.”  It is also the birthplace of six presidential wives. And here they are: Caroline (Scott) Harrison was born in 1832 and was born in Southwestern Ohio. She attended school in Oxford Ohio at an institution called Oxford Female Institute. After she married President Harrison they moved to North Bend Indiana. She died in 1892. Next is Helen Herron Taft. She was born in Cincinnati in 1861. She was called Nellie and suffered a stroke early in President Taft’s term. She is known for leading the drive to plant the famous Japanese cherry trees in Washington DC. Lusretia Rudolph Garfield was born in 1832 in Portage County. She was first lady for six months until President Garfield’s death in September 1881 after being assassinated. Lucy Webb Hayes was born in 1931 in Chillicothe. Her home is a historical site and is a museum. She is the first of the wives to earn a college degree.  She was considered an excellent hostess at the White House and served no alcohol. She died in 1889. Florence Kling Harding, born in 1860 in Marion, Ohio, was a devoted wife until Warren G. Harding died in office in 1923. She had been previously married. Ida Saxton McKinley was born in 1947 in Canton, Ohio. One of the Saxton-McKinley homes is a monument to all presidential wives. It is a seven-story “Richardson-Revival style”. The upper floors of the house are named for a first lady from Ohio.

Maybe I will get to go out to dinner this mother’s day....maybe we will order in.
