October 5, 2022 a thought for today, What was written by a pen, cannot be taken out with an axe. Russian Proverb
For the first upload for October 4 the “assignment title” was “red”. I saw all kinds of reds today and captured several on digital “film”. I was sitting in the McDonald drive thru and glanced in my side rear view mirror. I couldn’t resist the bright red car waiting behind me.Sue and I got short shopping errands out of the way Monday and yesterday so today I had all daylight hours to work on other things. I finished the bulletin and sent it out. Then finished an order for my great granddaughter. She is a new girl scout and is raising money for her troop. I also had a couple of on line things to get done.
The second upload was from my now “well visited” archives. This was taken in my daughter-in-law’s house a couple of years ago. I liked the juxtaposition of sunlight and shadow as well as the forms and shapes.I have three photo a day shots to find and process. I think I have two of them at hand so I will go in search for the other outside near the house. That won’t be such a hard task since the sun is shining. I think there is a bit of a nip in the air but it’s a typical fall day.
It’s been relatively quiet around here today so I have gotten most of what was on the agenda done so I am going to play around with getting the air fryer idea working. I need to do some reading and then some practice.
One of the upload titles for today is “orange”. I ventured into the back yard today to get this shot of my fire thorn bush. It is wicked. It has some dangerous thorns covering it’s branches. I’m not positive but I think it’s roots have become entangled with those of my lilac and hibiscus plant directly on the other side of the fence and seems to be winning over their existence. The word for today is listen. Know how to listen, and you will profit even from those who talk badly. Plutarch. A person hears only what they understand, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Listen with your heart, you will understand, Pocahontas. The best time for you to hold your tongue is the time you feel you must say something or bust, Josh Billings. There is guidance for each of us, and by lowly listening we shall hear the right word, Ralph Waldo Emerson. If you wish to know the mind of a man, listen to his words. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Be advised that all flatterers live at the expense of those who listen to them. Jean de La Fontaine. Everyone Is God speaking. Why not be polite and Listen to Him? Hafez. No one knows who is listening, say nothing you would not wish put in the newspapers. Charles Spurgeon. One never repents of having spoken too little but often of having spoken too much, Philippe de Commines. At the bottom of things, most people want to be understood and appreciated, Gautama Buddha. Take time to listen to what is said without words, to obey the law too subtle to be written, to worship the unnameable and to embrace the unformed, Laozi.
This second upload for today is another from the archives and another from my son and daughters-in-law home. I love the vintage feel and memory of such a school desk from years gone by.It’s that time of years. In this article we learn about some near by haunting. From what I have read there are a few places in our community that are supposedly “haunted”. This article is telling about the one at the Kelton House Museum where it states that “encounters have been occurring on the regular for nearly 50 years”. The museum is located in Old Town East and was once a family mansion. This structure was built in the Victorian style. There people can learn about history. In 1976 the Junior League of Columbus bought the property and began restoration. One of the first things they did was install alarm systems with motion sensors. Since there are many expensive things in the house the fire department recommended that all door interior and exterior be closed at night. As the story goes on every night at about midnight, the motion detectors sent signals. Those who responded found the doors open and no evidence of any kind of entry. One of the stories is that there is a little girl in wedding attire, there had never been a wedding there where a child was on the guest list. To further this story there was a report that on one fall day near 1960 there were children near the house. One child asked if she could play with another’s doll. But the girl didn’t seem to want to play with the others. Later is was discovered that the girl with the doll had died the previous day. Here’s another happening...some visitors were chatting one saw the others hair move slightly, “oh your air conditioning must have just kicked on”......the air conditioner in the house is “notoriously noisy, and the house remained silent”. Another reported incident...a woman was holding a piece of paper which, while she was talking, folded in half by itself. Then, in the article, the subject of deaths came up. In early years, at the time fo the Civil War, there was an accident at the house where a man had vertigo and fell into an alley from a two-story window and broken a femur. It took six men to carry him upstairs when he was returned from the hospital. Within three days he died. After that time “a number of neighbors have seen a man in the yard dressed in a Civil War uniform”, some of the neighbors even asked if there was a re-enactment going on. The article went on to tell of staff members have seen shadows of people walking on the steps. There was a red stain seen forming on a white couch, there was the smell of cigarettes when there was none being used. According to the article visitors relate of non-threatening encounters.
This is another of those days when I have a third photo of the day “assignment”. This one is “in the style of Ansel Adams” (one of my “hero's”). A Google answer “in the style of Ansel Adams. It's grand landscapes, iconic natural landmarks, front to back pinpoint sharpness and dramatic skies” and in black and white. I may fall short in the “pinpoint sharpness and dramatic”. I am still a “practicing professional (amateur) photographer”.
I think I may try the air fryer tonight. I may try fried chicken cutlets, maybe.
