October 31, 2022 a thought for today, Under a ragged coat lies wisdom. Romanian Proverb

One of the uploads for October 30 was “mellow”. I saw several “scenes” that gave a “mellow” feel. I chose this one.

This has been a lazy Monday for me. It was so cloudy at wake uptime this morning that it seemed earlier than it actually was. So I slept in a little longer than I planned. On top of that this seems to be a low energy day too. So things are moving along at a snails pace.

There was apparently some rain during the night so it has been gloomy with the sun shining through every now and then. I hope the kids have a good evening for their trick or treating.

The second upload was another free choice image. I chose this one, as it turns out I think it is one of my best for a while and puts me in mind of a quote from Ansel Adams, “Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop”. This one is of one of the many resting benches in the park near my home. There is a graffiti wall of Civil War logo on it in the background along with some neighbor home and a free in full color.

The only things I have accomplished are a few dishes washed and a minimal amount of straightening plus a short phone call to order meds for Sweet Pea. The biggest accomplishment is most of the bulletin is set up. Now to wait for the rest of the information.

The first upload for today is called “dots”. This is a close up of an old family chair with a tufted design where the each of the buttons (dots) causes a tuft in the leather.

The word for today is places. Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can. John Wesley. Colleges are places where pebbles are polished and diamonds are dimmed. Robert Green Ingersoll. Knowledge of the past and of the places of the earth is the ornament and food of the mind of man. Leonardo da Vinci.  The proper words in the proper places are the true definition of style. Jonathan Swift.  Talent develops in quiet places, character in the full current of human life. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Keep your place in life and your place will keep you. Aesop. Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time. Benjamin Franklin. A person places themselves on a level with the ones they praise. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The very center of your heart is where life begins. The most beautiful place on earth. Rumi.  All gardeners live in beautiful places because they make them so. Joseph Joubert.

The second upload for today is another “free choice”. I chose this image of my street with all the trees in the autumn splendor with an array of colors.

I am sharing this article because I think there might be some good in it for senior citizens, and in between, also. When there is talk about “games” it can be for adults  not only kids games but card games, puzzles, etc.  The title is “Study: Games can boost cognition, Screen time may not deserve bad reputation”. Right from the beginning the article said there has been a stud that show that those who “play video games for three or more hours a day show higher cognitive activity and skills involving impulse control”. There is some concern that video games have a negative impact. So there is an effort to understand both sides of the “impact” of these games and time on spent in this activity. However, the article still mentioned that playing the video games for long periods of time is acting like exercises. Some researchers said that the found that children playing the video games for twenty-one hours a week were faster and more accurate “on cognitive tasks than those who never played”. Studies also show “higher brain activity in regions of the brain associated with attention and memory......in the frontal brain regions, which are associated with more cognitively demanding tasks”.It is felt that this all relates to the brain becoming more efficient in visual processing. Some of the negative thoughts and plans for limiting time spent in the activity are potential obesity, lack of sleep, and socializing skills. The ongoing studies seem to show that in mental disorders there is insufficient evidence in causing “significant impairment or distress”. The article said that the scientists in these studies are not suggesting that parents “amp up” the idea of game playing time. Another area to be studied in the game playing issue is to help people as children with ADHD to form exercises to train them to sustain attention. Toward the ending of the article it is said that the thinking may be “is game playing a hazard to my child’s health? It might be. If children are foregoing other activities, such as school or homework, sleep or socializing with friends outside of their gaming”. These seem to be ongoing studies. From what was reported in this article it appears there are more pros than cons.

I think we are having grilled cheese (in air fryer) and grilled potatoes (in air fryer) for dinner.
