January 5, 2023 a thought for today, He who does not speak the whole truth is a traitor to truth. Latin Proverb
An upload yesterday was “something new”. This was a birthday present from Rebecca and Lowell.Another Thursday is on the way to being in the books. The bulletin is done and distributed. I was able to chat with Patti for a few minutes. I enjoy touching base with people while I am at church.
I went to choir practice last night. I had the beginning of a cold but it seemed mild. When I got home from the printing my nose was running like a faucet so I think I had better not go to the meeting scheduled for tonight. I don’t normally get colds easily but with the weather the way it was a week or so ago I think it had its effect on me. Hopefully I will be much better by church service time on Sunday morning.
The other upload for yesterday was “large bird” . We don’t have too many “large” birds in my area. I had this copy of an image I took at the zoo.The pharmacy at Kroger called a week ago to let me know I would have a prescription ready in a day or two. Yesterday they called and said I needed to pick it up in a couple of days or they would put it back so I figured I had better get over there to get it. I stopped on my way home from church.
Once at home, it was back to the normal Thursday routine to start the laundry and work on little chores in the kitchen and on my daily photos.
My first up load for today is “no filter”. This is a quick shot I made of Sweet Pea. Normally I have to touch it up a bit because she chooses to move at a bad time.I have tomorrow to move at a slower pace than the first part of the week. I got a new cast iron stove top grill that I need to “season”. I can get that done tomorrow and then whatever else pops into my head to get done. I still have to get some calendar’s out to family members, that might be a good time to work on that too.
The word for today is advice/advise. No man is so wise that he can afford to wholly ignore the advice of others. James Lendall Basford. A true friend freely, advises justly, assists readily, adventures boldly, takes all patiently, defends courageously, and continues a friend unchangeably. William Penn. Advice is like snow - the softer it falls, the longer it dwells upon, and the deeper it sinks into the mind. Samuel Taylor Coleridge. In giving advice seek to help, not to please, your friend. Solon. Advice in old age is foolish; for what can be more absurd than to increase our provisions for the road the nearer we approach to our journey's end. Marcus Tullius Cicero. We give advice, but we cannot give the wisdom to profit by it. Francois de La Rochefoucauld. Don't give your advice before you are called upon. Desiderius Erasmus.
My second upload for today is “ a church”. I have several different views. I liked this one best. This article’s title: ‘Everything we do is civic engagement’.....interesting concept. So I had to read and share the article. The article started out talking about “Besa” so I took a look at that connection.... “Besa connects people with local charities - from food pantries and community gardens to homeless shelters and senior homes. With your help, we provide support to those who need it most”.This organization helps to gather the volunteers in the areas of need. The author of the article said that Besa is a Columbus based nonprofit. They try to make it easy for people to know the needs in a community and how to be helpful in those needs. A friend of the author searched how he might help others. At some point he found information on Children’s Hunger Alliance and the food bank. He tried to help in these areas on his own without what he felt was success. The Besa organization showed that being in the neighborhoods to learn what was needed that gathered volunteers to help in those areas. Besa belief is that when we work together, we can make an impact on our community. Some of the areas where this works is with food pantries, helping women “dress for success”, serving the community in wellness cooking class, offering free meals, suppling pet food, building furniture for families in need, clothing donations, distrusting food to seniors, and more. All of this leading to “civic engagement”.
I had a third upload today called “beauty in the everyday”. I tried to capture light and shadow in these healthy red poinsettia leaves. For dinner tonight Tilapia in the air fryer with deli pasta salad and potato salad and cole slaw and rolls.
