April 1, 2023 a thought for today, He who is of no use to himself, is of no use to anyone. Danish Proverb
We don’t get the twins the weekend. This is the beginning of their spring break so their parents have a slightly different arrangement with them. We are third on the list.
My first upload for yesterday was “your best friend”. She’s a model for yet another photo. It is, maybe, an un-lady-like position but it “feels so good”.Bob and I (and Sweet Pea) did the grocery curb side pick up this morning. I just finished putting everything away.
We had some very high winds last night. Sometime during the night it must have gotten stronger than I knew because when I rolled over Sweet Pea was sleeping right beside my head. She doesn’t normally get in bed with me but she must have been so frightened she chose that at her safe place.
The second upload for yesterday was “silhouette”. I’ve got several shots in the archives that meet this title. But this is the one I like best for today. The temperature is decent for an early spring day but the wind is picking up again. They are saying that it may get strong enough again this week end to cause the electric to go off. That happened last Saturday. It was off for about three hours for us. I am totally lost without most of things I need the electric for especially the computer, tablets and phones.
I have just finished marking the family calendar with appointments/meetings for this month. It is nearly full which includes the medical tests Bob needs.
The first upload for today is “faceless self portrait”. This explains itself. I like this style better than a full selfie. The word today is fate. Fate loves the fearless... James Russell Lowell. I had a strange feeling that Fate had in store for me exquisite joys and exquisite sorrows, Oscar Wilde. Fate leads the willing and drags along the unwilling, Seneca. Sometimes our fate resembles a fruit tree in winter. Who would think that those branches would turn green again and blossom, but we hope it, we know it, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart, Marcus Aurelius. Each player must accept the cards life deals him or her. But once they are in hand, he or she alone must decide how to play the cards in order to win the game, Voltaire. Whoever yields properly to Fate, is deemed Wise among men, and knows the laws of heaven, Euripedes. Remember upon the conduct of each depends the fate of all, Alexander The Great. There is no such thing as chance; and what seem to us merest accident springs from the deepest source of destiny, Friedrich von Schiller. Everything that exists is in a manner the seed of that which will be, Marcus Aurelius.
The next upload for today is called “fool”. Some of the photo “assignments” for the day call for some thinking. This was one of those I had no idea what to use as a “fool”, being a person with a dry sense of humor doesn’t help in the decision making. I ended up choosing the joker in a playing card deck. The only time I remember a passenger train running through Columbus was when our grandparents went on a honeymoon on a train, many, many years ago. Now Columbus is planning for passenger trains to return to our city. As the article began “In much of the world, a major capital city without passenger train service would be unthinkable, yet that’s been the case in Columbus since 1979". The rail service in Columbus ended more that 40 years ago and made us the country’s second largest city without a train. There have been attempts in the past to renew a plan for bringing back passenger trains but it never came about. The population in Columbus has grown to a quarter of a million more people than in earlier attempts, and is still growing. Now the plan is to begin applying for funding for a new corridor identification program. Apparently this plan looks promising. Amtrask made a study in 2021 for a new service. It is reported that Ohio “really is, with the 3C-D corridor, a place where passenger rail can be commercially viable.”. It is expected that there will offer an economic boost. According to the article there is a 3C-D route that can re-establish service along existing rail lines. As to the question of safety it was pointed out that “ in order to achieve Amtrak’s average standard level speeds of 79 mph — and upwards from there to 90 mph and 110 mph — the rail service requires levels of maintenance and safety far beyond what is in place for freight traffic...Amtrak today is one of the safest modes of transportation in the country”.
Baked spaghetti is on the menu for tonight.
