August 5, 2023 a thought for today, Conscience is the chamber of justice. Italian Proverb
One of the uploads yesterday was “my choice”. As I was searching in my archives, I found this photo I took a while back. I like the gold color and the patterns so I decided to use it for this upload.Saturday again....my favorite day?.....maybe.. but I have six others too....all for different reasons.... simply put I have another day.
Looks like it is going to be a nice summer day, a little on the overcast side with the sun shining bright off and on. The temps not on the hot side. The wind chimes are singing regularly though so that means some breezes.
The next upload for yesterday was “hands holding a cup”. This one took me a few shots to get right. I set the timer on the camera then had to adjust the focus by trial and error. My “new” computer is coming along slowly. Lowell helped me with getting the three archive external hard drives up and running yesterday when he was here. As well as helping me with getting the speakers to work. I have the three software I use regularly up and running. I finally got the plug-in for Photoshop that I was having trouble with straightened out. I found it was a simple solution if I had only taken a couple of more clicks on the mouse in my original search. Now I am stumbling around with passwords. Because it is a new computer and my passwords are saved with the individual programs to open on the old computer the new computer flashes a warning when I try to open the software so I have to change password. Either that or the passwords are so old and have been changed so often that I don’t remember them. It is still going to take some time to get use to the new look.
Today is grocery curbside pick up. I have a sink full of dishes to get in the dish washer and there are plants that need watered, the ones still growing in soil. The hydroponic ones need water changed. Looks like it is going to be a busy day. Plus there are three photo’s of the day due today.
One of today’s photos is “off centre”. I took several, a scooter left un attended in a parking lot, light poles in the shopping center as well as this one.
The word today is came. I never did anything worth doing by accident, nor did any of my inventions come by accident; they came by work. Plato. All knowledge which ends in words will die as quickly as it came to life, with the exception of the written word: which is its mechanical part. Leonardo da Vinci, One may have a blazing hearth in one's soul and yet no one ever came to sit by it. Passers-by see only a wisp of smoke from the chimney and continue on their way. Vincent Van Gogh. And out of darkness came the hands that reach thro' nature, moulding men. Alfred Lord Tennyson. Before the palefaces came among us, we enjoyed the happiness of unbounded freedom and were acquainted with neither riches, wants, nor oppression. Tecumseh. Little by little he came to recognize the difference between the spirits that agitated him, one from the enemy and one from God. Saint Ignatius. My father... removed from Kentucky to... Indiana, in my eighth year... It was a wild region, with many bears and other wild animals still in the woods. There I grew up... Of course when I came of age, I did not know much. Still somehow, I could read, write, and cipher... but that was all. Abraham Lincoln. Why I came here, I know not; where I shall go it is useless to inquire - in the midst of myriads of the living and the dead worlds, stars, systems, infinity, why should I be anxious about an atom? Lord Byron. One returns to the place one came from. Jean de La Fontaine. Came but for friendship, and took away love. Thomas Moore.
My dad always told me about this but I thought it was just words....until I grew up. The article is about ‘math pops up everywhere....even in soap bubbles in your kitchen sink’. The author of this article said that at “13 the soap bubbles in the sink seems to form 3D polygons in a honeycomb shape but were perfectly round”, some looked like hexagons.....some others like squares full of air”...no stars or spikes. She learned that math had the answer. She became a professor of mathematics. She says that math is part of your everyday activities and the technology includes the inner workings of your brain. One 9-year-old asked “Will I ever need math besides for school or work?” When putting up a fence, painting a wall, or sewing enters the picture you need to measure and scale. Things get even more involved when building a tree house that include buying the materials where fractions and percentages come up in the money exchange as well as measurements for the materials. Then there is the chore of cooking, taking medication, understanding the weather forecast. Movie makers use math as an “essential tool”. Think of how geometry enters the making of video games. According to the article there are some middle and high school teachers who use the game “Minecraft to help students learn math concepts”. Doctors use math to apply medical treatments, sports teams need math to formulate plays, computer programers use math extensively to use and understand encryption codes. Doing math is like exercise for the brain making it “flexible” making you better able to handle tasks and ideas. Think about how math involves crossword puzzles and word searches. These math exercises improve memory possibly lowering the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia. The article went on the mention that “math can even help you outsmart artificial intelligence. With the rise of AI, it’s important to be able to think creatively, reason logically”. The article also mentioned that you don’t have to get the answer right right away, “in fact, you can learn a lot by getting the wrong answer.....appreciate how math is woven into so many parts of life”.
I had a third shot today...”patterns in nature”. When I am very observant I can find patterns in nature all over the place but I particularly like the patterns the sun gives us as it shines on objects in its rays.I think I will be making beef stew for dinner.
Joy
a little tangles but still there
