August 3, 2023 a thought for today, Even a small thorn causes festering. Irish Proverb
One of the uploads yesterday is from the “my choice” monthly photo a day club this month. It is a dandelion trying desperately to hang on in a graveley and messy part of the privacy fence post. The printing is done and I am home about to start the weekly laundry and move onto the rest of the day.
The alarm at church gave me a bit of a “situation”.The “warning” voice didn’t come on when I entered as is custom with the new system. I went through the shut off procedure anyway, apparently that notified Patti by phone. It would seem who every shut it off last missed a step or so. Anyway it all turned out ok.
When top of the list chores are done for the day I ‘play’ with the new computer....getting use to the new screens and looks. Also, setting up my short cuts and personal “tricks”. I have a plug in that I use with Photoshop that I haven’t been able to get “installed” to the new system. I am looking for techy help from the software maker. It is coming in dribs and drabs. I’ll get there eventually. This is why I like having the old computer still running for now.
My next upload for yesterday was titled “something I saw”. This leave that had drifted to my driveway from one of my neighbors’ tree.Bob is scheduled to have his first chemo treatment today. The thing is they do a blood test before the test to make sure everything is still in alignment. I will let you know if I find out by the time I send this note out to you. As I write my missives in pieces throughout the day new things to share pop up.
I am noticing that my hydroponic plant project is taking a new direction, one I should have anticipated. The water is leaving a “water line” on the glass so when I change each container with fresh water and fertilizer the glass will need cleaned too. This is called “learning as you go”.
The first upload for today is “a work in progress”. Since I was doing th printing of the bulletin today I decided to take the opportunity and use the copier as my work in progress for today. The word today is become. We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves. Buddha. When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be. Lao Tzu. The fool who persists in his folly will become wise. William Blake. The way you see people is the way you treat them, and the way you treat them is what they become. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Grief can be the garden of compassion. If you keep your heart open through everything, your pain can become your greatest ally in your life's search for love and wisdom. Rumi. Men have become the tools of their tools. Henry David Thoreau. To be what we are, and to become what we are capable of becoming, is the only end of life. Robert Louis Stevenson. Words - so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them. Nathaniel Hawthorne. If you seek truth you will not seek victory by dishonorable means, and if you find truth you will become invincible. Epictetus. If fear is cultivated it will become stronger, if faith is cultivated it will achieve mastery. John Paul Jones. Think not that humility is weakness; it shall supply the marrow of strength to thy bones. Stoop and conquer; bow thyself and become invincible. Charles Spurgeon. It is only imperfection that complains of what is imperfect. The more perfect we are the more gentle and quiet we become towards the defects of others. Joseph Addison.
The next upload for today is another of the “my choice” images. This one is from my archives and is of one of loving furry friends in our lives. He has since crossed over the rainbow bridge but still lives in our memories. Here is a bit about the Ohio State Fair from a young point of view. I like the way this article opened: “Less of an event, the Ohio State Fair feels more like a temporary community that pops up for a brief window every summer”. The article covers how find best things by a two-year-old. According to her adult the best place to start is the Natural Resources Park. One place they visited was the Kids’ Fishing Pond, apparently it is now filled with blue gill instead of catfish. There are no-cast rods and people manning the resource center bait the hook and take any caught fish off the line. While in this part of the park they visited the playground, the butterfly house and the prairie. Next on the trip with a two year old was a visit to the animals (her favorite were the pigs). The article mentioned the obvious that the State Fair’s livestock exhibitions are massive. That part of the fair kept the two-year-old busy and interested for hours. She even got to watch a baby cow be born. At one stop she was able to pick up a crayfish. There wasn’t time this year for her to try the camel rides or the pig race and she even had to miss the petting zoo. The two year old and her father “stumbled” upon the Little Farmers space. There are eight different miniature “barns”. Each barn has a hands on display. There are eggs, grain, beef and more example. The kids can take a list of items from each stop, like an “agriculture-themed scavenger hunt” and receive a prize. Here are the top pick in fair food from a two year old, at least this two-year old....mini donuts from Candi’s Concessions. All in all it was a fill and exciting day for this two year old and her father.
I think it is going to be left overs for dinner tonight.
Joy
PS another set back....no chemo.
