October 6, 2023 a thought for today, All skill is in vain when an angel pees in the touchhole of your musket. German Proverb
My first upload yesterday was “my choice”. This one is another of those from the archives. It was a much earlier upload to fit another assignment a long time ago. I like it, the plant and the background, so here it is again. One of my houseplant garden plants a good old standby....spider plant.
Friday at last. I got the thank you notes in the mail, then made a stop at the bank.
Last night I got back to returning to a meeting that I have missed for the last three months. I think I am back to all of the church committees and activities that I had put on hold. They have helped me from spending a lot of time thinking about the sadness and given me time to deal with it more gently and slowly. Now, though for some reason, the loneliness seems stronger. I guess I still have more of the journey to travel.
The second upload yesterday was “blue”. I was almost alone in the sanctuary at church taking the Sunday bulletin around to its proper places at the entry doors. While in the quiet comfort of an empty and sun lit (through the stained glass windows) room belonging to my higher power I decided stop for a capture of the blue in the robe of one of the saints and to have a chat with you know who.The signs of autumn are becoming much more apparent. The majority of the leaves still haven’t changed color but many are falling from the trees already.
I had a third upload for yesterday. It was titled “dreamy”. This is Sugar, a furry friend I had to let go over the rainbow a couple of years ago. This is one of her many naps and dreams as her years were catching up with her.We had a bamboo wind chime on the front porch during the time Bob was ill. At first he said he didn’t like the sound. A few days later he told me he was getting use to it. A couple of weeks ago I ask Sue if she could move it for me, the sound was a little strong. We moved it to the back of the house hanging in one of the evergreen trees. It is much more pleasant now and seems in the right place among nature and the trees. Another of the wind chimes on the front porch was a gift in memory of Bob. It has a beautiful sound, almost like music. The aluminum tubes are struck by a wooden “clapper” and the “wind catcher or feather” is also wooden so swings more gently than the other chimes that I have made of all metal. The ones of all metal have a stronger sound. The sound of the one with the wooden parts is softer and peaceful.
My first upload for today is “yellow”. As I was coming home from an errand I saw and captured may things in yellow. It turned out in my darkroom (Photoshop) that I liked this one best not only for its color but for the shapes and textures in addition to the color. The word for today is thoughts. If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one? Abraham Lincoln. What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals, Henry David Thoreau. The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts, Marcus Aurelius. What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday, and our present thoughts build our life of tomorrow: Our life is the creation of our mind, Buddha. The soul becomes dyed with the colour of its thought, Marcus Aurelius. No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thinking, Voltaire. The highest possible stage in moral culture is when we recognize that we ought to control our thoughts, Charles Darwin. The ancestor of every action is a thought, Ralph Waldo Emerson. Thought is free, William Shakespeare. Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny, Lao Tzu. There are a thousand thoughts lying within a man that he does not know till he takes up the pen to write, William Makepeace Thackeray.
My second upload for today is another from the archives and another of the “my choice” images. As with the early furry friend image this was another of my comforts who traveled the rainbow bridge. His name was Timmy and he liked to “confine” himself to sometime pretend “hiding” places.Legos and recycling...that’s a great idea. That is what this article is about. I hadn’t thought of it in this vain but that article stated that “Lego (is) the world’s largest toy manufacturer.” It is also adding to the worlds attempt to help in the plan to reduce carbon emissions it is pledging US$1.4 billion. It is not “just for show” but for the benefit for children and their parents, “and sustainability is fundamentally about ensuring that future generations inherit a planet as hospitable as the one we enjoy today.” On September 25, 2023 the, Legos, formed an initiative called “Bottles to Bricks.” As it suggests the traditional Lego plastic would be replaced with “a new material made from recycled plastic bottles.” However in the planning it was discovered that the process for producing the bricks that way would result in “higher carbon emissions.” They reversed their decision and will continue the present process of production “while continuing to search for more sustainable alternatives.” This article sees this as the “experts in global supply chains and sustainability, we believe Lego’s pivot is the beginning of a larger trend......for entire supply chains in a circular economy.” It went on to relate the business leaders are “increasingly integrating environmental, social and governance factors, commonly known as ESG, into their operational and strategic frameworks.” Legos seems to have put a strong effort into this study and along with others have seen that “realizing that efforts to reduce carbon emissions often boil down to supply chain and consumer-use emissions.” It appears that it is an involved and many faceted problem and the Legos, for one, seems to be sticking to the effort to find a solution. One of the comments in the story is “the Lego example serves as a cautionary tale in the complex ESG landscape for which most companies are not well prepared....we may see more instances where well-intentioned sustainability efforts run into uncomfortable truths.” It is not a “checklist of good deeds” but more an ongoing “commitment to the benefit of future generations.”
Pizza time.
