October 2, 2023 a thought for today, He who wants to do a good jump must sometimes take a step back. German Proverb

An upload for yesterday was “red”. As I was driving to church and while in choir rehearsal I was looking for something suitable for my image of red for this photo.  A friend has this bag quite readily handy.

And Monday rolls around again right on schedule. So that means getting a start on the weekly church bulletin. We are having a new guest pastor. That always means a slight deviation from the “normal” way the bulletin is done. There is always something special to the person giving the message. This one wants an additional insert to the bulletin, just a few more minutes of time and effort. I had errands to run today also so I completed half of the bulletin. I will finish the other half tomorrow. I think there is going to be another insert after choir practice. It will be the lyrics to whatever our anthem will be for the week. I will have to type and format it on Thursday before I go to print be cause our choir practice, therefore the anthem choice at that practice.

When I got home from church yesterday, Brian was here to finish painting and power washing the garage. So now that is one thing checked off the to do list.

The second upload is from the “my choice” group. This one I captured as I was in the drive thru at McDonals.

I am at the point of assembling parts of the thank you notes that I have been working on as I multi task with other projects on my plate. I needed some more of the swipe on two sided tape containers.... that was one of the errands. While I was out I picked up a small Boston Fern since that is one I am really interested right now in growing hydroponically and my effort with one my original plants didn’t take. I think I had to many roots attached to to large a section of the plant.

On the way back home I made a stop at the vets office to pick up the phenobarb meds for Sweet Pea that I ordered earlier this morning.

Sweet Pea had the last of her meatball treats last night so that was another thing on todays agenda, make some more meatballs.

The first upload for today is “black”. My sun glasses against a black background.

The word today is satisfaction. He who is not satisfied with a little, is satisfied with nothing, Epicurus. Little minds find satisfaction for their feelings, good or bad, in little things, HonorĂ© de Balzac.  A contented mind is the greatest blessing a person can enjoy in this world, Joseph Addison. When we cannot find contentment in ourselves, it is useless to seek it elsewhere, Francois La Rochefoucauld. Be satisfied with success in even the smallest matter, and think that even such a result is no trifle, Marcus Aurelius. Whatever satisfies the soul is truth, Walt Whitman. There are three wants which never can be satisfied: that of the rich, who wants something more; that of the sick, who wants something different; and that of the traveler, who says, Anywhere but here, Ralph Waldo Emerson.  He who knows that enough is enough will always have enough, Lao Tzu.   Whether you find satisfaction in life depends not on your tale of years, but on your will, Michel de Montaigne.  Rest satisfied with doing well, and leave others to talk of you as they please, Pythagoras.  I am satisfied that when the Almighty wants me to do or not do any particular thing, He finds a way of letting me know it, Abraham Lincoln.

My second upload for today is from the archives. It was taken at the Ohio Village a few years ago and
has bee waiting in the archives for me to pick it as an upload.

Here is another bit of history about Columbus. There is some interest as to how streets get named, as far as that goes how many things get there names. The article even mentioned a look at that idea, where names come from, as I did “a drive down the road and can be a history lesson.”  Refugee Road here in Columbus got its name. The article mentioned something that I wasn’t aware of, not that I am aware of the why of everything around me, that why I like to “research” or “Google” when I hear or read of something. Something like this one “Refugee Road is something of an oddity in the fact that it is not one but two roads that run parallel to one another.” As it goes on it mentions that it starts near US 23, runs 25 miles and dead ends into Buckeye Lake. The second starts near Reynoldsburg, goes about 14 miles and reaches Hebrron in county. Another fact is that between the two are four and a half miles, parallel roads with the same name. As we move on in the article we examine 1776, we were at war with Britain an help was welcomed in our goal of independence. As noted in the article there were men from Canada “discontent with British rule” who wanted to help us in the battle. They left all they owned, along with land and home that were “confiscated by Great Brittan.” So they along with there families were refugees after the war was over. I learned in the article that “the United States Government agreed that something had to be done to show their gratitude.” Since after the war money was scarce other means of “compensation” had to be found. In 1783 an “Land Ordinance” was made. In 1785 land was offered to those refugees. At that time the land that was offered was in Connecticut and “wasn’t free.”.So a few years went by. In 1798 land was set aside in the Ohio territory especially for that purpose. It was even given a name, ‘the United States Military District’. This designated land was located along the Scioto River. It extended 42 miles from Franklin County into Perry County, 100,000 acres. As it turned out few come to claim the land, sixty-seven applicants. Twenty plus years had gone by and news moved slowly. Half of the designated land was “doled out” the rest was sold. They article ended relayed that the “Refugee Tract” covers most of downtown Columbus, Bexley, and Whitehal, Reynoldsburg, Buckeye Lake, and Hebron.” The only “vestiges of the tract are the two Refugee Roads which make up the northern and southern borders for which they are named.” I still don’t know for sure why there are two roads though. However, Refugee Road is an important - and rare - bridge to the past.

I am having packaged fried rice for dinner tonight. So far it is the only one that I have tried that I am going to order again. I may have to start cooking for a single portion rather than a “family”.
