December 3, 2023 a thought for today, God fits the back for the burden. Irish Proverb

The first upload for yesterday was “shoes.” One of the twins was here yesterday. One of the first things she does when she comes in is take off her shoes. I took the opportunity to make several shots of her shoes. I added a filter to this one.

The second upload for yesterday was “peace.” For me the facade of a church speaks of peace. This one is not far from my house. I took a picture as I passed by for today’s image upload.

The third upload yesterday was “songbird”. I don’t know if either of these birds is considered a song bird but it’s thinking that the sound all birds make is a song.

Life today. Church was good today. The congregation was still small in number but for some reason everyone was sitting closer to the front. I guess the other church that meets after us had roped off the entrance to the back pews causing more people to move forward.

We are getting ready for the Christmas service as far as the choir choices and other preparations. One of the members brought in a nativity scene that her mother had made years ago. It made me wonder if maybe she had made it at my mothers ceramic “studio”. Mom had one in her basement where she gave classes and ran a kiln for the firing of the pieces. After checking with the member I found it wasn’t my mom’s it was another lady a couple of blocks away from mom who did the same thing.

Maddy was selling homemade cookies after church and will be donating the money to our food pantry ministry. So I made a stop by and got some cookies for me and Sue.

The first image upload for today is “bracelet”. My daughter gave me this bracelet several years ago for Christmas. I am not a big jewelry wearer. I keep this one in its box and admire it to recall memories every now and then.

After church I stopped to fill the tank then to Kroger for a couple of items I had missed on Saturday’s pick up. Next a drive by the park for a photo, no luck on the photo. I was trying for wildlife in the form of some geese or squirrels but neither were there. There is heavy equipment parked for ongoing work they have been doing in the park. I imagine the “wildlife” have chosen to stay clear of the area until that work is completed and the huge equipment is gone. I will have to rely on my archives again for this one.

As is my custom today is the slow-as-you-go and renew and refresh side of things. There won’t be any “heavy duty” chores and such.

This second upload for today is “last thing I read.” As you can tell, this is a photo image of my tablet where I do most of my reading. These are the books I have been most recently interested in.

The word today is language. To have another language is to possess a second soul. Charlemagne.  Music is the universal language of mankind. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.  The language of friendship is not words but meanings. Henry David Thoreau.  In making a speech one must study three points: first, the means of producing persuasion; second, the language; third the proper arrangement of the various parts of the speech. Aristotle.  It is not the language of painters but the language of nature which one should listen to, the feeling for the things themselves, for reality is more important than the feeling for pictures. Vincent Van Gogh.  The chief virtue that language can have is clearness, and nothing detracts from it so much as the use of unfamiliar words. Hippocrates.  Use what language you will, you can never say anything but what you are. Ralph Waldo Emerson.  Language is the blood of the soul into which thoughts run and out of which they grow. Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.  All speech, written or spoken, is a dead language, until it finds a willing and prepared hearer. Robert Louis Stevenson.  The finest language is mostly made up of simple unimposing words. George Eliot. Language is the armory of the human mind, and at once contains the trophies of its past and the weapons of its future conquests. Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Sarcasm I now see to be, in general, the language of the devil; for which reason I have long since as good as renounced it. Thomas Carlyle.  Language is a city to the building of which every human being brought a stone, Ralph Waldo Emerson.  Language is not only the vehicle of thought, it is a great and efficient instrument in thinking, Sir Humphrey Davy. The language of truth is simple, Euripides.

The third upload today is “wildlife”. Being in middle of a large city there are not to many choice in wildlife. It would be birds, ducks, squirrels, bunnies or a few other. All of them are difficult to find let along capture. But here is one of the few I and my camera were ready for.

The article synopsis. I had no idea there was a “hidden tunnel” in Columbus so this article title caught me. The article starts out... “At the intersection of Brighton and High Street in Clintonville, two covered stairwells descend into the sidewalks.” As I read this I realized I have passed these “stairwells” and never gave it a second thought. Apparently there was an “infrastructure built nearly 100 years ago.” The answer to the two stairwells now lies in a tunnel that exists outside of Clinton Elementary school. In a short description of the tunnel is that of a few old yellow flood lights inside white concrete walls. Apparently in the past some of the elementary classes have painted murals on those walls which have since been cleared. The storey behind the tunnel is that it was created for public safety. According to some historical records 100 years ago “a child was killed by a car trying to cross the street while headed to or from the school.”  In memory of the child the family raised the money for a tunnel to be built. There are other stores circulating about the accident. Some say the child did not die, some say year in the records is wrong. There is a story about this situation in the Columbus Dispatch archives. In the article the child was 10 years old and attended Crestview School which is near the present Clinton Elementary school. In May of 1927 a child try to cross High Street and was hit by a streetcar. His leg had to be amputated. The accident caused more attention to be paid to the location and that other students crossed the street at that place. People tried to find a way to raise funds to build the tunnel under High Street. The stairs were built as an entry to the tunnels. There is a gate on the entry to the stairway to the tunnel and it is kept locked.

It will be taco salad for dinner.
