January 14, 2024 a thought for today, Education doesn't come by bumping your head against the school house. Albanian Proverb
The first upload for yesterday is “pet(s)”. This is an old furry member of our family. Her name was Zoe. I spent some time baby sitting with her. Here she is napping with one of her favorite toys hugged with her paw.
way off but I didn’t have my camera with the longest lens handy at the time that I caught site of this helicopter.
The last upload for yesterday was “close”. This is Sugar as she was trying to hide behind the top of the desk chair.
Life today. Our church service was another of the style I like. I favor the ones that include today with scriptures and their meaning from over two thousand years ago. I will be waiting for this pastor to visit us again. She adds “life” to the message....how meaningful.....isn’t that what it’s all about?
We had to have the service, for the second week, in the parlor instead of the sanctuary due to a heating situation. The congregation is small enough to fit nicely and it makes it a cozy setting. I like it but I am eager to get back to the “church” atmosphere too.
After the service we had our monthly fellowship hour which included today a birthday celebration for our Sunday School girl....Maddy.
My first image for today is “a water view”. The closest water view is at the park down the street from my house. It’s to cold to go very far from home for a water view especially because it will most likely to be iced over. Though that might add character to the image.Since we got the church webpage “unlocked” (do to a technical glitch) I seem to be on a roll. I don’t know how long it will last but will enjoy it as long as it does (last). I started an instagram page, we have a facebook page. I am trying to update the web page and add new things to the facebook page as well at the new instagram page. Hopefully it may encourage more people to join us especially in the Sunday School area. We never know what will work until we try it so wish me luck. With a webpage, a facebook page and an instagram page we should be able to reach many people. I just need to find a way to get those digital addresses out to the public.
The temperatures have dropped more than I think they have in the past couple of winters. I hope they don’t last too long. They are harder to take as the human physical years advance. That doesn’t mean more will look but with more pages out there there’s a better change of notice.
The next image upload for today is “wildlife”. There are lots of birds and squirrels for wildlife in the city. One day I may be lucky and get photos of deer and other furry creators.
The word today is thought. The more man meditates upon good thoughts, the better will be his world and the world at large. Confucius. All of our dignity consists in thought. Let us endeavor then to think well; this is the principle of morality, Blaise Pascal. Thought means life, since those who do not think so do not live in any high or real sense. Thinking makes the man, Amos Bronson Alcott. If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it, Marcus Tullius Cicero. Thoughts are but dreams till their effect be tried, William Shakespeare. To him whose elastic and. vigorous thought keeps pace with the sun, the day is a perpetual morning, Henry David Thoreau. The power of thought, the magic of the mind, Lord (George Gordon) Byron. Mental pleasures never cloy; unlike those of the body, they are increased by reputation, approved by reflection, and strengthened by enjoyment, Charles Caleb Colton. All grand thoughts come from the heart, Marquis De Vauvenargues. Life consists in what a person is thinking of all day, Ralph Waldo Emerson. Having each some shingles of thought well dried, we sat and whittled them, Henry David Thoreau. The soul of God is poured into the world through the thoughts of men, Ralph Waldo Emerson. Be a Columbus to whole new continents and worlds within you, opening new channels, not of trade, but of thought, Henry David Thoreau. Thought is the sculptor who can create the person you want to be, Henry David Thoreau. Thought takes man out of servitude, into freedom, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
A second upload for today is “home”. This is my home. A neighbor says the red pillows on the porch swing set the image off. This article brought to mind that old church buildings when they are sold can be turned into use for other purposes. There is a historic downtown church. It is the “former” Central Presbyterian Church on S. Third Street. The Columbus Association of the Performing Arts bought the building in 2012 and are making plans to renovate this church. It was built in 1860 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The plan is for it to become a music venue. Part of it, a rear addition, will be demolished. In its place there will be a three-story addition that wraps around the church. This new part of the building will be two different bar spaces with new entrances, restrooms, and other “support spaces” for the venue. This new venue will give the Performing Arts Association a chance to be “offering a smaller, more flexible space that will be able to accommodate a wider range of performers” than some of their other preforming art spaces in the city. It will offer places for 350 seats, standing and dancing room. It will hold 150 to 200 people for “banquet events”. The space will allow for other community organizations use also. As well as the use of arts performances and banquet space it will be a community center. The Historic Resource Commission will also offer suggestions. To move on with the project the City of Columbus and other local foundations and corporations have pledged support. The hopes are to have the opening in the summer of 2026. It is hoped that this project when completed will help attract more people to the downtown area of Columbus.
It will be either spaghetti or beef and noodles for dinner and the other for tomorrow night.
