January 8, 2024 a thought for today, Do not put your foot further than you can draw it back again. Albanian Proverb
An upload for yesterday was “the great outdoors”. This is the great outdoor in Ohio in January. Sometimes there would be more snow. But this gives a general idea of winter in our state.
The second upload was then on the same day as the first just in adifferent location. It is called “cold”. I think the chunk of snow that the windshield wipers missed and the background gives a good indication of cold.
The next upload for yesterday was “cuddly toy”. I searched and searched in the twins toy box that we keep her for a cuddle toy but alas no toy. Then I remembered a favorite toy of one of our furry family who crossed over the rainbow some time ago. I kept his toy and had it stored away in a drawer.
Life today. I had friend, my best friend in that part of my life, who recommended a book to our book club. First let me tell you a little about her. She lived near me, she was a loyal and active member of my church. She took me onto the Outreach committee at church and I was on session with her. She took me to her book club, she listened to me, she encouraged me. Her name was Nancy. Now to the point, before she left us a few years ago she recommended a book to us at the literary club and personally mentioned to me how much she liked the book. She seemed drawn to the story and thoughts in the book. I just recently put it on hold at the library. I was 157 in the waiting line. I got it yesterday. I have started reading it....it reminds me of Nancy and so much more. The book is called All the Light We Cannot See. In just a few pages I think I know why it made an impression on her, the strong spiritual and wise person she was. For the book is a bit intimidating but something we may need to consider, it may offer growth and understanding.
The morning started off like most Mondays do, with a start on the bulletin. We have a minister coming this week who hasn’t been here for a while. So I don’t know how much information she will want to have to be entered. Also when she will be able to get it to me. So I was able to send her a text.
The first upload for today is “minimalism”. After I uploaded this I got to thinking someone may think it s on the macabre side. It may look like separated dog legs. Of course it’s not that. This pup at the Humane Society had his legs under a door. He may have been test to see if he could squeeze the rest of himself through.I took a few minutes to take another look at the web page to determine how I want to go about making the necessary updates.
I got the dishwasher started after I worked on getting the refrigerator clear. I also found some time to work more on getting Christmas put away. I made some good time with it but there is still a little more to do. One of the things I am preparing to put away are the crochet snow balls I had made and starched. I want to get the starch out of them so I can store them in their original shape....flat and placed in plastic. The problem is I did two of them the other day. I thought I got all of the starch out. When they were dry they were flatter but still stiff. The shape was down but the crochet thread was not soft like it is naturally. I am trying now to soak them in Dawn soap water.
The second upload for today is “something that flies”. If flying is considered only getting off the ground and moving through the air Duke could do that. But my image for something that could fly was the blue ball he caught in mid air.
The word to day is think. Think then you are Today what Yesterday you were - Tomorrow you shall not be less, Edward Fitzgerald. One is not idle because one is absorbed. There is both visible and invisible labor. To contemplate is to toil, to think is to do. The crossed arms work, the clasped hands act. The eyes upturned to Heaven are an act of creation. Victor Hugo. Ambition leads me not only farther than any other man has been before me, but as far as I think it possible for man to go. James Cook. To live is to think. Marcus Tullius Cicero. To God everything is beautiful, good, and just; humans, however, think some things are unjust and others just. Heraclitus. Reading furnishes the mind only with materials of knowledge; it is thinking that makes what we read ours, John Locke. No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thinking, Voltaire. I have found power in the mysteries of thought, Euripides. The soul never thinks without a picture, Aristotle. The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts, Marcus Aurelius. We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses, Abraham Lincoln. Thinking is the soul talking to itself, Plato.
The next photo could also be considered macabre also but many times “chaos” which is the title to thisphoto assignment can be an ugly disaster. In this one no one was injured but the car was damaged beyond repair. The article. This is an interesting way of looking at the day light savings time. The author, who wrote for the Dispatch for many years, said “when I was a kid, darkness meant bedtime, which no self-respecting kid welcomed. Late sunsets meant more fun”. So bedtimes in the summer was a pain for a kid. You would lay in bed and hear other kids still playing in the street. If the kids complained to much the parents, enjoying the quiet of kids in bed, may give in with the added comment “take extra food and a change of clothes in case we enjoy the quiet so much that we change the locks.” As we get older and darkness falls a 5 o’clock the feeling is more like ok we’re not playing “wiffle ball after dinner when it’s 25 degrees outside”. Then we look a July where we think “July is fleeting. Don’t rush the darkness”. The author went on to say “I find the shifts more of an adjustment now that I did at 8, 18 or 28". He also pointed out about losing sleep with time change that there are other more acceptable reason to not be upset with losing sleep like a late football game that goes into overtime.
I think I am having a turkey sandwich and potato salad for dinner.
