March 6, 2024 a thought for today, The morning hour has gold in its mouth. German Proverb
One of the uploads for yesterday was “architecture”. We do have a few architectural interesting structures near my home. For this day I selected the front entry to this church a few blocks away from my house.
The next upload for the 5th was “industrial”. I have had a few assignments using this subject of late. There is a lot of “industrial” type work going on in our neighborhood right now so I have several to choose from.
Life today. I left for the memorial service for Ed early yesterday so that I could get the bulletins placed before people started coming. I went to the basement to see if I could help getting things ready for the luncheon. There was no one there for a few minutes. When Gail, Bob and Susan came in we got started. The service was beautiful. There were a couple of people who can’t make it to church much anymore who were there. It was nice talking to them and catching up. I didn’t stay to help afterward. My stamina doesn’t go much past three hours anymore.
This has been one of those bits and piece’s kinds of day. I answered a couple of emails and a phone call from an old friend at church. I finished the bulletin and sent it to readers. I made a last minute ‘trip’ through the annual report checking for anything out of place. I sent a couple of photos out to two ladies who were taken into the church Sunday. I also got the shut-in envelopes printed and stamped.
My first upload for today is “friends”. I have a beautiful group of friends at my church. This is some of those friends at a fellowship gathering after service. I did not ask for permission to put their images on the internet so I used a “painterly” filter to keep the photo friendly while at the same time not making each person so well defined. One of the photos for today called for things that are good together. I was going to have a tuna salad sandwich at noon but decided to move that to dinner. Instead I made some bacon and eggs and toast to fit the things that go well together.
The weather is in one of its changes again. The past couple of days have been warm and sunny. Today is on the overcast and cooler side of things.
My second upload for today is “from where I stand”. I was “playing” with a feature on my smart phone called panning (I didn’t know it was there the other day when I needed “panning”). I decided to use the subject of my “playing” for this assignment. This is my house as seen from my desk.
The word today is atmosphere. It is better to have your head in the clouds, and know where you are... than to breathe the clearer atmosphere below them, and think that you are in paradise. Henry David Thoreau. Love is a portion of the soul itself, and it is of the same nature as the celestial breathing of the atmosphere of paradise. Victor Hugo. Fiction is to the grown man what play is to the child; it is there that he changes the atmosphere and tenor of his life. Robert Louis Stevenson. We all walk in mysteries. We are surrounded by an atmosphere about which we still know nothing at all. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The atmosphere breathes rest and comfort, and the many chambers seem full of welcomes. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Behave so the aroma of your actions may enhance the general sweetness of the atmosphere. Henry David Thoreau. Without atmosphere a painting is nothing. Rembrandt. A few feathery flakes are scattered widely through the air, and hover downward with uncertain flight, now almost alighting on the earth, now whirled again aloft into remote regions of the atmosphere. Nathaniel Hawthorne.
The next upload was “good together”. In my thinking on this subject I came up with bacon and eggs. I decided to “kill two birds” (don’t like the word kill but....) with one stone.....my lunch and my photo prop.
The article. This article about the Audubon park brought something to the memory portion of my mind. Sue and I visited there soon after it officially opened in our city. That is where I saw a rain chain. It fascinated me. So I bought one for Sue on her birthday that year. To this day it hangs on our front porch. Maybe there are other ideas and incentives at that park. Like, for instance, things to be found in the new space there called the Experimental Museum. The article began with this explanation, “A local company plans to bring a “first-of-its-kind experimental museum” to the Whittier Peninsula”. As my further research showed, this is a “first-of-its-kind” for Columbus Ohio. There seems to be others with this idea in other parts of the world. They offer hands-on exhibits. Ours here in Columbus will “take over a 30,000-square-foot space in the Audubon Park Office Center, the former Lazarus Warehouse building that was renovated by the local real estate firm in 2016". The article states that it “will only be found here in Columbus.” I assume that it will be different than the others mentioned below. I also assume that each of these offer somethings that differ however they are the same in that they all offer the chance to experiment with items and/or science allowing for the possible creation or experiencing something new and different. At any rate, it offers the change for experimentation on a personal level that can only be found in these venues. This land is on a peninsula where the Scioto Audubon Metro Park is located. At about the same time there is a new apartment development in the plans for the peninsula area. In some of the further research that I mentioned earlier I found that these museums can be found around the world : Looking for a fun day out and want to learn something in the meantime? Well, you’re in luck. A visit to one of these interactive museum experiences allows you to bring out your inner child while teaching you a thing or two about yourself and the universe around you. Mostly though, they’re just really fun. Here are some of them. SPYSCAPE New York, ArtScience Museum Singapore, Cité de l’espace, France, Haus der Musik – Vienn a, National Museum of Singapore, Hong Kong Space Museum, Universeum – Sweden, NEMO – Amsterdam, Exploratorium – San Francisco, Museum of Childhood, London, Quake: Lisbon Earthquake Museum – Portugal.
I think I will have a tuna salad sandwich and homemade vegetable soup for dinner.
Joy night work
