February 13, 2025 a thought for today, A friend you get for nothing; an enemy must be earned. Yiddish Proverb
The first upload for yesterday was “l is for...” I chose this lamp. This was one of my daughter’s lamps. I liked the shade then added a paint filter.
some fun with a new game he found in a toy chest we have kept on hand for several years.
Life today. I was late going to the church for printing the bulletin today. We had to see about an insurance estimate so Lowell came by to meet with the person. I didn’t have time to go before that appointment. I have an appointment to get my badly needed hair cut at eleven. So I started the laundry early and got some of the daily computer chores started. I hoped to get to the church after my hair cut. I am a person who lives by a “schedule” so mine is way off kilter today. I am also concerned about what will be happening with the weather in the next few days so I want to get “travel” as limited as possible.
The first upload for today is “portrait”. I don’t do a lot of portrait-type photography. This one is of my sister. I don’t think she was expecting this shot. It I were to be a “portrait” photographer I would prefer taking photos of people being natural, not posed.Due to the time switches for me today I grabbed one of my three photos for today from my archives. The rest I will have to take while I am out on the other chores.
Today the weather isn’t too bad. It is still just at freezing but not snowing or icy. The clouds are a heavy overcast which is kind of dreary.
I’m back!! Printing seemed a little quicker today. I was done in just less than an hour. I’m afraid the bulletins will be a little later getting to the people we mail them to. The earliest pick up box I have been able to find had already picked up for the day. My hair is much shorter now and much more easy to take care of.
The next challenge for today is “includes letters or numbers”. I chose this one because it has a little more pizzazz than just letters or numbers alone. The word today is sight. For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream. Vincent Van Gogh. Time is a sort of river of passing events, and strong is its current; no sooner is a thing brought to sight than it is swept by and another takes its place, and this too will be swept away. Marcus Aurelius. They might not need me; but they might. I'll let my head be just in sight; a smile as small as mine might be precisely their necessity. Emily Dickinson. Charms strike the sight, but merit wins the soul. Alexander Pope. Each man is good in His sight. It is not necessary for eagles to be crows. Sitting Bull. The greatest talents often lie buried out of sight. Plautus. Friendship at first sight, like love at first sight, is said to be the only truth. Herman Melville. Those things that nature denied to human sight, she revealed to the eyes of the soul. Ovid. Anger and jealousy can no more bear to lose sight of their objects than love. George Eliot. For there is no defense for a man who, in the excess of his wealth, has kicked the great altar of Justice out of sight. Aeschylus. In truth, to know oneself seems to be the hardest of all things. Not only our eye, which observes external objects, does not use the sense of sight upon itself, but even our mind, which contemplates intently another's sin, is slow in the recognition of its own defects. Saint Basil. Beauties in vain their pretty eyes may roll; charms strike the sight, but merit wins the soul. Alexander Pope. You see through love, and that deludes your sight, As what is straight seems crooked through the water. John Dryden. Each man is good in the sight of the Great Spirit. Sitting Bull.
The last upload for today is “m is for...” In this case, mop. This one wasn’t to hard to think about and was easily on hand.Article: My husband use to like to cook when he had time. So, many many years ago, I gave him a gift of a set of cooking classes at the French Market in the Continent. Together we went to classes once a week for six weeks. It was fun not only the classes but just walking through the Continent was too. After all these years I think I have a few of the recipe sheets tucked away in an old recipe book. The article: “The Continent Was An Incredible Development Way Ahead Of Its Time”. The article started out by mentioning that the Continent was way before its time in the use of “mixed-use” development. To top it off it was “quaint, (as well as) European-style streets were lined with shops, open-air cafes were around every corner, and cozy apartments could be found mere moments away from the action” of the city of Columbus. It opened in 1972. The goal of the developers “was to create a small French village where visitors could stroll, shop, live, and play”. And so it was with narrow street and apartments and shops “modeled after the French Quarter in New Orleans”. The “French Market” was in the center of the “small village” and local items were sold at the market. But, as happens as time moves on and “new” ideas come along “the allure of The Continent faded”. Other “malls” as the City Center, Westland Mall and Easton took it’s place. In the space, 60 acres, that was the “Continent” the “Parisian-style apartments are still available for rent, but long gone are the cafes spilling into the winding, narrow streets”. As the article came to an end it asked could the Continent have a rebirth?
Maybe taco salad for dinner tonight.
Joy
a quiet byway
