February 3, 2025 a thought for today, Walk straight and you will not fall. Yiddish Proverb
images when I am volunteering at church. I caught of the hymnals and bible in the pews.
Life today. Monday means back in the swing of things, so to speak. For me that means getting started on the church bulletin. I don’t have all the information I need yet but I got the backside of the three fold completed.
I had to make a phone call to set up a city required change to the water meter. Those kinds of calls can take up to an hour or more when placed on hold. There was an option to have them call me back at my point in line so I accepted that option. I got a call back in about fifteen minutes. So that was then taken care of and marked off the to-do list.
I ran into one hiccup after another starting on this letter. Those took an hour or so of research so after that was another check mark off the Monday list, Sweet Pea and I took a break to go to McDonalds and then the park for some photo shots. One shot in particular was interesting. There were several ducks on the pond today. One caught my attention he/she was standing on a chunk of snow that was still floating on the water. By later in the afternoon all of those small snow chunks that were there will be gone, it is supposed to reach near 60 degrees.
My first upload for today is “depth of field”. I think this ia a weather vane. It is on my neighbor’s fence. I think this image is a good sample of depth of field.I was reading one of Lee Child’s books that gave me a sort of unsettling feelings but I am stubborn when it comes to my reading habits and I didn’t want to “quit” so I finished the book. Then ordered a new book. I am never (they say never say never) without a book to read. Now I’m comfy cozy with my reading selection.
In my re-reading some of my letters and all other typing material I am finding that I seem to have more and more typos. Forgive me if they are noticeable. I have discovered the problem(s). I have been typing for over seventy years now so I know without a doubt where each key is without looking. My problem is I have carpal tunnel syndrome and can’t distinctly feel which key one of the affected three fingers is hitting and some times hit a nearby key at the same time. Combined with my dyslexia it is a double wammy but I won’t stop typing, it is part of what makes my life good. I don’t normally proof read until I make a blog (and personal photo gallery) of the letter the next day. (Side note: I have other not so main stream oddities also, I am petite in stature and old with wrinkles). I guess my life is progressing as my Maker meant it to be. (Smile). So be it.
My next upload for today is “superbowl Sunday”. I don’t have any football photo in my archives and no footballs on hand here at home. But one of the things used in celebrating major sport event seem to be foot mainly in the form of snacks. The word today is seen. All I have seen teaches me to trust the creator for all I have not seen. Ralph Waldo Emerson. True love is eternal, infinite, and always like itself. It is equal and pure, without violent demonstrations: it is seen with white hairs and is always young in the heart. Honore de Balzac. My dream is of a place and a time where America will once again be seen as the last best hope of earth. Abraham Lincoln. Faith has to do with things that are not seen and hope with things that are not at hand. Thomas Aquinas. All your losses will be made up to you in the resurrection, provided you continue faithful. By the vision of the Almighty I have seen it. Joseph Smith, Jr. I have seen the king with a face of Glory, He who is the eye and the sun of heaven, He who is the companion and healer of all beings, He who is the soul and the universe that births souls. Rumi. Some virtues are only seen in affliction and others only in prosperity. Joseph Addison. Beauty seen is never lost, God's colors all are fast. John Greenleaf Whittier. O solitude, where are the charms That sages have seen in thy face? Better dwell in the midst of alarms, Than reign in this horrible place. William Cowper. Every beauty which is seen here by persons of perception resembles more than anything else that celestial source from which we all are come. Michelangelo. Sufficient for me is that honour which is not seen of men but is felt in the heart, as faithful is He who hath promised and who never lies. Saint Patrick. The lion is, however, rarely heard - much more seldom seen. John Hanning Speke.
The last upload for today is “c is for...”. This is one of the statues at the park down the street, perfect for this assignment.Article: I hear about the places on earth where people don’t have clean water. This article brought that to my mind. Before I read it through, I was wondering if there might be some help with that problem in this article. The title is “How does raw water compare to tap water? A microbiologist explains why the risks outweigh the benefits”. According to the article, raw water is “water that comes straight from natural sources” and seem to becoming popular. There are some folk who are called “raw water advocates” who “reject public water supplies, including tap water”. Apparently they don’t like the tast or think it is “unsafe” with no vital minerals. The article goes on to say that tap water and commercially bottled water is regulated. People who consume the raw water are “vulnerable to infectious microbes or potentially other toxic contaminants”. Through history “humans have long associated dirty water with negative health outcomes”. I learned from the article in a time period around 1500 BCE the Egyptian people added a “binding agent to their water to clump contaminants together for easy removal”. In the mid 1800s it was determined that “impure” water is dangerous. There were deadly cholera outbreak that were traced to contaminated water in London. Lousis Pasteur practiced with the theory that water and milk that contained microbes that cause illness. In the twentith century large scale projects were begun to “ensure the public water supply is safe”. I learned that today a steps were “employed” similar to those used “by the ancient Egyptians, followed by extensive filtration to get rid of debris as well as most germs and chemicals”. Chlorine is then used to “kill lingering pathogens, including those that may reside in the service pipes carrying the water to the faucet”. In the 1940s fluoride was added to protect teeth. Many people believe that raw water has health benefits such as essential mineral and “beneficial bacteria called probiotics, that are stripped from tap water”. The article says that tap water is not depleted of essential minerals. They are too small to be removed in the filtration process. Any minerals supplements that may not come from food alone can be added. “There are no studies associating raw water with any health benefit”. The article went on to ay that “cholera, dysentery and typhoid fever are no longer health burdens in the U.S. thanks to a robust water treatment system”. But this is not the case in some areas of the world.
I think I will make sloppy joes and fries for dinner.
