Photos in my life yesterday

This upload is called “my choice” and is one of my “texture overlay” images. The lower layer is one of my air plants. The top layer is one of my created texture sheet made form an image of crumpled paper bag.

Next is the challenge titled “favorite ornament”. Since I have new kitten the
house I decided to use ornaments on the tree that would not early brake if the tree was upended. I have several plastic and cardboard stars along with other ornament in plastic and cardboard. She hasn’t attempted any attack on the tree at all.

The third upload challenge is titled “string”. I decided to use an old pair of boots with shoe strings for this image. It was originally shot on plain white background. I added the textured background instead.

The last image upload is “food related”. I decided on the toaster as my
model for the “food related” image.

Life today. There seems to be a lot of loose ends on my to-do list right now. I just got what I need  to finish this weeks bulletin. I just got corrections to make from the copies I sent out of the newsletter. I haven’t receive the names I need for the poinsettia dedications. All of this is due by or before a week from tomorrow. Then there are the family and friends gifts to finish up. As well as daily life needs.

The temperatures are still below freezing. We had food pantry today. I think it was our lowest turn out ever. But something along these lines would be easily expected in this kind of weather. We also have another food pantry day tomorrow. The temperatures are suppose to be a little better. The thing is, I sill have one more thing to go outside for before this day is over. I have a meeting tonight at church. Maybe is could have been postponed but c'est la vie. The meeting is at 5:00, which I like normally. I have about an hour to finish up this day on the computer. I think I had better tie things up for today. Tomorrow’s another day.

The word for today is owe.  All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother. Abraham Lincoln.  To the living we owe respect, but to the dead we owe only the truth. Voltaire.  Existence is a strange bargain. Life owes us little; we owe it everything. The only true happiness comes from squandering ourselves for a purpose. William Cowper.  Even after all this time, the sun never says to the earth, 'You owe me.' Look what happens with a love like that. It lights the whole sky. Hafez.  To Edward, I cannot be a traitor, for I owe him no allegiance; he is not my sovereign; he never received my homage; and whilst life is in this persecuted body, he shall never receive it. William Wallace.  Great indeed is the sublimity of the Creative, to which all beings owe their beginning and which permeates all heaven. Lao Tzu.  Through devotion, your family cares become more peaceful, mutual love between husband and wife becomes more sincere, the service we owe to the prince more faithful, and our work, no matter what it is, becomes more pleasant and agreeable. Saint Francis de Sales.  Those who boast of their descent, brag on what they owe to others. Lucius Annaeus Seneca.  If I owe Smith ten dollars and God forgives me, that doesn't pay Smith. Robert Green Ingersoll.  Those have a short Lent who owe money to be paid at Easter. Benjamin Franklin.  It shows nobility to be willing to increase your debt to a man to whom you already owe much. Marcus Tullius Cicero.  Many men owe the grandeur of their lives to their tremendous difficulties. Charles Spurgeon.  Render to God what you owe him; recognize the obligations you are under to him. Louis XIV.  Pride does not wish to owe and vanity does not wish to pay. Francois de La Rochefoucauld.  Words contract a significance which clings to them long after the condition of things to which they owe it has passed away. Joseph Barber Lightfoot.  Though men are apt to flatter and exalt themselves with their great achievements, yet these are, in truth, very often owing not so much to design as chance. Francois de La Rochefoucauld.  The moderation of people in prosperity is the effect of a smooth and composed temper, owing to the calm of their good fortune. Francois de La Rochefoucauld.  Debt is a prolific mother of folly and of crime. Benjamin Disraeli.  In civilized society we all depend upon each other, and our happiness is very much owing to the good opinion of mankind. Samuel Johnson

Article summary. I thought since some of us are experiencing snow right now it may be something to know a little more about. The title to the article is “Understanding the dynamics of snow cover in forests can help us predict flood risks.” Benjamin Bouchard, Étudiant-chercheur au doctorat en génie des eaux, Université Laval. Daniel Nadeau, Professeur titulaire en hydrologie des régions froides, Université Laval, Florent Domine, Professeur, chimie, Université Laval. At conversation.com.  The talk about snow in this story seems mainly centered in Canada. It opens by mentioning how  snow melt for people in the wake of it’s release of water can “be like a sword of Damocles hanging over their heads.” Snow melt along with “intense” rainfall can cause major flooding. As the story moved on it relates that rainwater “transfers” heat to the snow, making the combination of the rain and the melting snow excessive in nature. The melting of the snow happens in degrees due to the layers of snow and the consistency of each layer. Snow fall in a forest is different. Snow falling on the trees keeps some of the snow off the ground. With the snow on those two, trees and ground, there is another consideration of the layers in the snow and the melting process that takes place layer by layer. I gather that as result of the rate of melting layer by layer this makes a difference in the flood issue. There is another factor that enters the picture. The cover of trees in a forest is not uniform causing “gaps”. So this is another feature of the snow layers being a different type of melt. Yet another fact is present to make the melting yet more complicated. There is refreezing as a “daily cycle”. I gathered from the article that some may think that the area of the gaps would reduce flooding. Apparently it doesn’t necessarily reduce it. It does change the course of the melting process. Another issue we have to remember is the global temperature changes and how that enters into the equation. In conclusion it is mentioned how this can be studied and handled for “better public protection against flooding.”

I think it will be salmon and carrots for dinner.

Photos in my life today

My first choice of upload is another “ornament”. As with the one above it is a cardboard star.

This assignment was “thin ice”. On my way home from church I went by the park at the end of my street. The generally put up a sign that warns against skating on his pond when the ice is so thin. The sign wasn’t up yet but there was a thin layer of ice with some water showing at the end.

The last challenge was “santa”. One of the ladies helping with food pantry offers tokens of the season w to all of all of the helpers.
