Photos in my life yesterday
The first challenge was “my choice” . It is one of my series of“ black and white”. This was taken at church as I was going through the Sanctuary placing bulletins.
“decorations”. This is one of the beautiful decorations on as is on all of the columns.
Life today. So far it has been a typical Monday. I have the bulletin done up to the person giving the message. My internet/television service was down for more than twelve hours yesterday so I didn’t get any uploads finished. I did that before I started the bulletin. One thing I was able to do without the internet was to get a start on todays letter. That helped with time I have today for other things.
I got some work done on the dishes in the sink, some kitty care work done, and the irobot sweeper in my room. I was able to find one of the images I need here in the house. I needed to get the other two from the archives since I won’t be leaving the house today.
My neighbors on either side of my house are on my mind today. One has had major surgery Friday and isn’t doing to well. The other is having a knee replacement today. We have all been close with one another for many years now.
Sue has gone to visit with the twins today so it is very quiet here today. It usually is fairly quiet but there is the occasional sounds coming from each of us to dispel any loneliness.
I still have a couple of check boxes on todays agenda. I want to get yesterdays Sunday school uploaded to Instagram. I still need to get today’s photos finished then uploaded and today it is time to take care of the hydroponic house plants.
The word is offence. An honest man speaks the truth, though it may give offence, a vain man, in order that it may. William Hazlitt. I find that to be a fool as to worldly wisdom, and to commit my cause to God, not fearing to offend men, who take of offrence at the simplicity of truth, is the only way to remain unmoved at the sentiments o others. John Woolman. No man lives without jostling and being jostled in all ways he has to elbow himself thoguth the world living and receiving offence. John Carlyle. Its easier for the generous to forgive, than for offence to ask it. James Thomson. How shall I lose the sin, yet keep the sense, and love the offender, yet detest the offence. Alexander Pope. The theologian considers sin mainly as an offence against God; the moral philosopher as contrary to reasonableness. Thomas Aquinas. A fool continues nothing worth hearing and takes offense at everything. Aristotle. We should be too big to take offense and too noble to give it. Abraham Lincoln. And where the offense is, let the great axe fall. William Shakespeare. Sir, with no intention to take offence, I deny your right to put words into my mouth. Robert Louis Stevenson. Reproof, especially as it relates to children, administered in all gentleness, will render the culprit not afraid, but ashamed to repeat the offence. Hosea Ballou. A small unkindness is a great offence. Hannah More. Care must be taken that the punishment does not exceed the offence. Marcus Tullius Cicero. When an oath is taken ... the mind is more attentive; for it guards against two things, the reproach of friends and offence against the gods. Sophocles. Your accumulated offences do not surpass the multitude of God's mercies: your wounds do not surpass the great Physician's skill. Cyril of Jerusalem. There is no greater offence than harbouring desires. There is no greater disaster than discontent. There is no greater misfortune than wanting more. Laozi.
Article summary. I don’t have small children anymore but it was interesting for me to see how “modern” events and gadgets can affect human lives. I think that can carry over to realizing it is important to understand how “new” affects all humans and all animals for that matter. This article talks about a method of communication. The titles is Social media, not gaming, tied to rising attention problems in teens, new study finds. Torkel Klingberg, Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet. Samson Nivins, Postdoctoral Researcher, Women's and Children's Health, Karolinska Institutet. At theconverstion.com. It begins by saying in the beginning the “digital revoution” was an “unplanned experiment”. It also mentions that children seem to be the most “exposed participants”. As read further I wondered about the statement saying the use of these “digital devices be playing a role?” meant. To learn more about this theory there was a study begun on the subject. They split the test using about 8,000 children into three groups. These groups were gaming, YouTube types of use and social media. One of the tests on the social media portion was whether the usage caused long term changes in “inattentiveness and hyperactivity.” One finding was there was a “gradual” increase in inattentiveness in the area of the test for social media instead of YouTube and gaming. They further tested if the inattentiveness was causing still more use of social media, it didn’t. From these tests they determined that the other two types of the texts ruled out negative effects of using “screen” activity. In conferring with “cognitive neuroscientists” for some input they made an educated guess about the social media messages. It seems it is not the message themselves it is “the mere thought of whether a message has arrived can act as a mental distraction”. This kind of distractive act may cause long term effects . Gaming has a different affect since it is played with different thoughts and movements. Data they have accumulated has shown that social media in the last 20 years has increased by one hour more per day. There are efforts in not allowing children under “13 to create an account on most social platforms”.
Potato soup sounds good to me for dinner.
