April 2, 2022 a thought for today, Truth that is poorly timed is as bad as a lie. German Proverb
I spent part of yesterday morning with my son and then for a little while with Rebecca too. Lowell escorted me to my dental appointment and then treated me to breakfast. The rest of the day was playing catch up with computer chores and a few household tasks too.
The first photo of the day for yesterday was titled “on my plate”. I forgot to get a shot of my plate at Bob Evans this morning so I pulled one from the archives.I don’t have much on the agenda for today. There are several areas that need some attention in the house keeping area but I just plain don’t feel like it today. It will still be there tomorrow.
The weather is taking its time getting to spring temperatures. We are getting more one day decent temps for the season followed by two or three with a chill in the air.
The second photo for March 1 was “parallel lines”. I thought about the white slated fence and gate at on my neighbor’s yard, also the white slates on the back of my porch swing. I thought those might be a little to plain so I chose this one from the archive. These are a set of windows on the elementary school down the street. The word it serve. If I am walking with two other men, each of them will serve as my teacher. I will pick out the good points of the one and imitate them, and the bad points of the other and correct them in myself. Confucius. Books serve to show a man that those original thoughts of his aren't very new at all. Abraham Lincoln. God is everywhere but He is most manifest in man. So serve man as God. That is as good as worshipping God. Ramakrishna. Painful as it may be, a significant emotional event can be the catalyst for choosing a direction that serves us - and those around us - more effectively. Look for the learning. Louisa May Alcott. Mishaps are like knives, that either serve us or cut us, as we grasp them by the blade or the handle. James Russell Lowell. Studies serve for delight, for ornaments, and for ability. Francis Bacon. The bow kept taut will quickly break, kept loosely strung, it will serve you when you need it. Phaedrus. So long as we love, we serve; so long as we are loved by others, I should say that we are almost indispensable; and no man is useless while he has a friend. Robert Louis Stevenson. Soul-serving requires a heart that beats hard against the ribs. It requires a soul full of the milk of human kindness. This is the sine qua non of success, Charles Spurgeon. Unsolicited advice is always self-serving, Amy Dickinson.
The first photo for March 2 is “a vegetable”. I discovered as I was searching for things in the frig to shoot that we eat very few fresh vegetables. I have some baby carrots and a bit of wilted lettuce but those weren’t too exciting for my image today so once again I went to the archives and got a shot of some yellows peppers I shot at the store a few weeks ago.Circleville is an interesting city and has a bit of history. The Circleville grew two hundred yeas ago on land that has history way before that. It was once called Roundtown. Here are some facts about the area that may explain that. The land was ceremonial grounds of the Hopewell people 2,000 year ago. As was their custom they built earthworks. In 1810 there was a search for a place to build a county seat. In the search a circular earthwork, 1,000 feet across with a wall twenty feet high, was found near the Scioto River. The founders decided to keep the circular shape and put a courthouse at the center. Roads and plots of land were laid out in “concentric circles around it”. In 1837 the “grid pattern” was redesigned. According to the article, some citizens complained about the layout. Over a twenty year period the “Circleville Squaring Company” reshaped the city. By 1956 nearly all of the Hopewell earthworks were leveled. The courthouse was relocated. Today one notes that it was “one of the most remarkable relics of a prehistoric age.” I learned from the article that next to the circular mentioned earthwork was a connecting square-shaped embankment nearly the same size at the circular earthwork.
I am making lima bean soup in the pressure cooker for dinner.
