April 4, 2022 a thought for today, A book gives knowledge, but it is life that gives understanding. Hebrew Proverb
This has turned out to be a busier day than I had expected. It started out on the “low” side (low in spirit, I mean). But after some communication back and forth it worked out. To top off the break in the “low”, I had a visit with my grand daughter. I don’t see her as often as I would like so the light shines when we get together.
One of my two photo challenges for yesterday was “fruit”. I find that I am in the habit of buying more fresh fruit at the grocery store that fresh vegetables. In this case I had tangerines and apples available for my model.
I got the bulletin information early so I worked on that and got the major parts of it done. It will need some touch up tomorrow. I also passed on some committee information from one source to another.
The second of my two photos for yesterday was“uncomfortable”. I couldn’t come up with a way to show discomfort as an image. I came up with band-Aids or the first aid kit we have on hand at my home. There are also the unseen discomforts as spiritual and such to be shown with sad expressions and postures.
I wanted to share an online directory with some of the heads of committees and leaders but apparently it is going to take more than the password to get it to work so that is going to be a thing for me to work on and work out. At least I can see that it is protected from easy access by those who may not need to see it.
One of the photos of the day for today was “breakfast”. I generally eat an odd breakfast, Cheesits and hot tea. But since that is a bit on the “not so healthy” sides I fixed my self an omelet, fried spam and toast for the occasion.
The word today is shadow. Time flies over us, but leaves its shadow behind. Nathaniel Hawthorne. We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves. Buddha. Friendship is the shadow of the evening, which increases with the setting sun of life. Jean de La Fontaine. Glory follows virtue as if it were its shadow. Marcus Tullius Cicero. Beware that you do not lose the substance by grasping at the shadow. Aesop. A human being is only breath and shadow. Sophocles. Above the cloud with its shadow is the star with its light. Above all things reverence thyself. Pythagoras. A false friend and a shadow attend only while the sun shines. Benjamin Franklin. When men yield up the privilege of thinking, the last shadow of liberty quits the horizon. Thomas Paine. Every man casts a shadow; not his body only, but his imperfectly mingled spirit. This is his grief. Let him turn which way he will, it falls opposite to the sun; short at noon, long at eve. Did you never see it? Henry David Thoreau. It is only through shadows that one comes to know the light, St. Catherine of Siena. Most of the shadows of this life are caused by standing in one's own sunshine, Ralph Waldo Emerson
The second photo of the day for April 4 is “anything but snow”. Well that could be a lot thing right now. The snow is mostly passed for this season. Now we have the early flowers beginning to show themselves. Then there are all of the other parts of living that could meet the description of “anything but snow”This article hits home in that it talks about food pantry produce and where some of it is grown which is close to home. The title: "The Mid Ohio Farm" is located on the Hilltop not far from my house. It is a program “within” the Mid-Ohio Food Collective. It covers a seven -acre stretch of land within an urban neighborhood. In the process of growing fresh product it offers an agricultural education and “promotes special farming techniques as it builds communication with the community". A current plan is to include a farmer’s market for low-income families from their three new greenhouses. A look into the future has a reason as stated this way, “motived to address the root causes of poverty and lift up our customers”. The Mid Ohio Farm idea began in 2013 in Groveport Ohio. In 2018 the farm moved to this new area. The “special farming techniques” mentioned above coves things like repurposed freight containers and energy efficient domed greenhouses. The building on this site is a 12,000 square feet multipurpose structure serving as a farmers market with the capability to expand the growing operations. Some of the produce that have been produced on the farm are herbs, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, and peppers. They hope to add leafy greens and fish, even shrimp. One of the three greenhouses grows by hydroponics. One will grow the fish and the other is yet to be assigned a theme. A full time education coordinator has been brought in on the projects. This coordinator will develop curriculum for all levels, field trips and virtual classrooms. The articles related to the teaching of youth about farming in hopes some will take up that occupation. Since 2018 Mid Ohio has helped with funds for the education of youth in the school district to develop eleven “learning gardens”. Part of those lessons were making a “smart farm” on how to best use small amounts of land for farming. One such system was a vertical farm where plants are grown in a tower system and can produce more than 200,000 pounds of mixed produce. To conclude in the article: "We're not as interested in yield numbers because we're not in the business of sales.....We're in the business of spreading this knowledge."
I am making tuna casserole for dinner tonight.
