November 13, 2024 a thought for today, Learning is as high as the mountains and as wide as the seas. Chinese Proverb

An upload for yesterday was “old”. This is one of the things left from some of my aunt’s things that I inherited. It is a vintage waffle iron. This is one that is used on the stove rather than an electric.

The next challenge is “energy”. I shot a couple of images to be used for this
upload and chose this one, my hot water tank with the label “energy” clearly in view, out of the selection.

The last upload for yesterday was “a toy or a game”. This is only game I could find that was left in the small toy box we keep for visiting kids.

Life today. It has been an eventful day for me. At 9:00 I took my car to the mechanic for repair and got a rental. That was the “eventful” part. I am extremely sensitive about driving a car that does not belong to me. I have even had some stressful dreams about it. I got a Toyota Camry which is good since that is the type of car I have been driving for about fifteen or so years. This one is much newer than both of the ones I own/ed. It was a smooth drive home from Enterprise....a mere block and a half, at least a start. It is going to take a few more trips out before I am even a little more comfortable with it.

I seem to be in one of the minor “down” sides of life. I am without my trusty car....I am also without my trusty computer. Thank goodness for the laptop that was Bob’s and that I kept for a back up. That is and will be for a while at least my substitute. Lowell mentioned that he would take me and the computer to MicoCenter as soon as he has a free minute. Yesterday when I booted up to start the day I got the “blue screen of death”. I tried a couple of attempts to “fix” it but nothing worked. The lap top is a great help but a little hard on the old eyes since the screen is smaller. There are also some “differences” in how it responds to certain commands that I have to reconsider in the usual process of my work. I was able to get the envelopes printed for church and a couple of birthday cards.

My first upload for today is “multiples”. There are all kinds of “fits” for this challenge. I found this one to be my best choice for it today.

Another “down side” for today is my carpal tunnel is acting up and causing me to not have feeling for some of the keyboard letters. So there may be more “typos” than usual. Also certain keys are in different places on the two keyboards taking more time for me to watch where my fingers are going.

Enough complaining, at least I have transportation and have a computer to do church things and my letters, blog and photos.

I am going to take a break to do some dishes.

The next upload today is “coins”. This one was an especially easy one for me. I have some ins on hand that are ready to be rolled and deposited.

The word for today is pay. All wish to possess knowledge, but few, comparatively speaking, are willing to pay the price. Juvenal.  Since you cannot do good to all, you are to pay special attention to those who, by the accidents of time, or place, or circumstances, are brought into closer connection with you. Saint Augustine.  I pay no attention whatever to anybody's praise or blame. I simply follow my own feelings. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.  Real happiness is cheap enough, yet how dearly we pay for its counterfeit. Hosea Ballou.   You must pay the price if you wish to secure the blessing. Andrew Jackson.  It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world. Thomas Jefferson.  Pay attention to your enemies, for they are the first to discover your mistakes. Antisthenes.  It is an unscrupulous intellect that does not pay to antiquity its due reverence. Desiderius Erasmus.  Justice is the insurance which we have on our lives and property. Obedience is the premium which we pay for it. William Penn. Pride does not wish to owe and vanity does not wish to pay. Francois de La Rochefoucauld.  The greatest homage we can pay to truth, is to use it. James Russell Lowell.  It is ridiculous to suppose that the great head of things, whatever it be, pays any regard to human affairs. Pliny the Elder.

The last upload for today is another in a two day series, “old”. Some of these garden tools are newer than others but all are really on the “old” side of things.

This article is just a bit of history about some of our metro parks. The title is “Columbus-Franklin County Metro Parks created in 1945 to preserve forest and recreation land”. Hopefully they are fulfilling that purpose, “preservation” of green space in the city. The article shares that there is a “thriving metro park system dedicated to conservation, education and connecting residents with the great outdoors” that was created in 1945.  At that time it was “only 100 acres of Franklin County’s woodlands were public lands”. In about 1948 Blacklick Woods became the first Columbus & Franklin County Metro Park. At that time all there was to it, a well and a gravel road.  Today it is more than a 650-acre park. There is a nature center along with six trails, picnic shelters, play areas, seasonal ponds with the newest feature, a very popular treetop canopy walk. The next park to come into the system was Blendon Woods in 1951. As time went by both parks “showed signs of overuse”. The article went on to say that in the 1960s Columbus was growing fast with population increases, more highways and growing suburbs. So the “Metro Parks purchased land to expand existing parks and secure space for new ones”. With the Columbus Public Schools, the YMCA and scout troops more young people were needed “outdoor recreation and educational programming”. The “Metro Parks system continued to grow in the 1970s and 1980s with the opening of new parks”. Today there are 20 Metro Parks. They are in the Columbus area and extended “beyond Franklin County into six other counties in central Ohio”.

Probably some saved fried rice for dinner from the freezer.
