Photos in my life yesterday

This first challenge is titled “something frozen”. Last month I made a trip to the Springfield Museum of Art. When we were leaving I noticed what I thought was a very old masonry wall of some sort that seemed  miles long. As it turned out it wasn’t masonry it was a very tall slice of earth and rock. I believe it was in an area called Ferncliff. It was awesome. It was pure nature touched by God.

Next is “a favorite place”. This is one of  Bobbi’s favorite places, laying beside
my keyboard under the computer screen.

This challenge was called “shopping”. I do most of my shopping online. I do however do a grocery pick up at the Kroger. While I am waiting I observe shoppers coming and going.

Life today. Yesterday and today have been quiet as far as much “motion” is involved. I was at the computer steadily yesterday with the bulletin and an upload to Instagram of Sunday School, along with other minutia. There was also working on a fairly long blog with some extra research that I wanted to “fact check”.

I spent a good part of the morning yesterday on the phone. I was trying to make the appointment for my eye test a OSU. I called and was put on hold. I waited for about ten minutes. Then gave up. Tried again later, same thing, except the mechanical operator said “leave name and number for a call back”. I did that. After a while I decided to try one more time, put on hold again. I left the phone on and put it down on the desk with speaker phone set. That one only took about five minutes and it was answered by a real live person. After giving insurance and health information I got an appointment for next Tuesday. So I will have to have a “driver” until then. There are some who are encouraging me to use the Uber service . I may have to consider that as an option if the test doesn’t go as I hope. It is so impersonal. However, the ride alone isn’t all I want. Maybe I am one of the “odd “men” out” but when I have something other than regular and routine outings. I want to have an advocate or just a warm body who oozes comfort and motivation, company in other words making the trip, wherever it goes, more at ease and interesting even enlightening perhaps. That would be an added spice for the day on top of the outing itself.

Today is much quieter. I even have time to glance at talk shows now and then (an maybe a soap opera) as I work on my daily “personal” computer tasks. And breaks for ‘talks’ and hugs with my kitten.

The weather has been passable for the last few days, now they are saying there will be a major deep in temperature in for the next week with some snow flurries thrown in.

The word today is provided.  Unprovided with original learning, unformed in the habits of thinking, unskilled in the arts of composition, I resolved to write a book. Edward Gibbon. In the highest civilization, the book is still the highest delight. He who has once known its satisfactions is provided with a resource against calamity. Ralph Waldo Emerson. Man is fond of counting his troubles, but he does not count his joys. If he counted them up as he ought to, he would see that every lot has enough happiness provided for it. Fyodor Dostoevsky. A bore is a man who deprives you of solitude without providing you with company. Gian Vincenzo Gravina. In my youth, I traveled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer. Benjamin Franklin. Our body has this defect that, the more it is provided care and comforts, the more needs and desires it finds. Saint Teresa of Avila. If a projectile were deprived of the force of gravity, it would not be deflected toward the earth but would go off in a straight line into the heavens and do so with uniform motion, provided that the resistance of the air were removed. Isaac Newton. Nations, like stars, are entitled to eclipse. All is well, provided the light returns and the eclipse does not become endless night. Dawn and resurrection are synonymous. The reappearance of the light is the same as the survival of the soul. Victor Hugo. Let them hate me, provided they respect my conduct. Tiberius. Imagination was given to man to compensate him for what he isn't. A sense of humor was provided to console him for what he is. Horace Walpole. May nothing entice me till I happily make my way to Jesus Christ! Fire, cross, struggles with wild beasts, wrenching of bones, mangling of limbs - let them come to me, provided only I make my way to Jesus Christ. Ignatius of Antioch.

Article summary. My husband was in the Navy and we lived for a time in Bethesday Maryland. I was pregnant for my first child, my daughter. My husband decided he would make me some maternity clothes. He made me one maternity outfit of “pedal pusher” pants and top and a couple of other maternity tops. So as I read the title to this article the memories flashed back. On a side note, it also brought to mind how the simple process of reading most anything can ignite as well as make memories. The title is Not just a ‘woman’s hobby’ – why more men are picking up sewing, and why you should too. Jye Marshall, Lecturer, Fashion Design, School of Design and Architecture, Swinburne University of Technology. At: theconversation.com. The article began by mentioning that some men took up sewing during th COVID pandemic and social distancing. It mentioned that men in Australia in particular for this article have started sewing “up a storm”. The reason this is interesting is that sewing has traditionally been a woman’s job for some time. It mentioned something I hadn’t considered, that men are developing sewing groups for community involvement and for health purposes. The author says that the surge in mending and sewing by men seems to be related to “sustainability and overconsumption issues”. To be more mindful of the word I found this definition, “reducing (overconsumption) involves mindful purchasing”. It is well established that tailoring had been an occupation of men in the line of mostly men’s clothing for hundreds of years. Then the article moves on explaining how making clothes became women’s work. Today it is 77% women’s work. The article says that in the 1800s there was a “bundling manufacturing system” whereby bundles of garments were sent to home sewers. During the period after the second world war because of the “economic conditions” women were involved in “dress making”. At about the same time women worked to “fill” labor shortage. Sewing was called “simple” work for women. The author then says that it is widely known that sewing can be a  “complex set of skills, and has historically been undervalued.” As the article moved on it began talking about sewing as a hobby. If you have no experience in that “hobby” you may want to take lessons but being self taught can be a method by using YouTube as a beginning. Sewing is considered relaxing by many. It  can be a method of reducing stress as well as making it a healthy habit.

I am going to make poached Tilapia and mac and cheese for dinner.

Photos in my life today

The first upload in the section is “wintery landscape”. This one is from my photo archives. We have had
snow but there is none on the ground right now.

Next is titled “close”. That word has a couple of different meanings so I chose the one referring to “close the door”.

Last for this series is “bold colors”. This is an out door wall piece That I pass often. It is on the side of a lumber supply building.
