January 5, 2026 a thought for today, No one knows where another's shoe pinches Dutch Proverb

Photo in my life yesterday

This challenge was “breakfast”. I have a variety of breakfasts, this is one of about four regulars.

Next is one of the club calls “my choice”. This is one in my series of “in camera
filters”. It is a corner of my church.

The last upload in this group is “morning light”. We didn’t have much “bright” light yesterday morning. I didn’t want to take one from the archives so I used the one I was able to capture this morning.

Life today. It had been a quiet morning start until I learned that my daughter and son-in-law were in an auto accident. They were thankfully not injured and neither was the other party. It was shock. It’s not the best way to start a new year.

The call about their accident came at about the time I was finishing the bulletin. I continued with it and sent it for proof reading.

This is another one of those days when I made a to-do list that would take longer than the hours in one day. So I am re-aligning things. One of the things on my list was to put the Christmas tree and cards away for the season. This is the twelfth day of Christmas, Epiphany begins tomorrow.

After the bulletin and the Christmas things were done, I started on the photo assignment/ challenges. One of them was for wildlife in the winter. We have very few “wildlife” in this part of my town so I had to relent to the thousands of a large variety of images in my archives. However, that is what it is there for. When I am shooting photos I shoot extra ones for times when I may need them. Although I prefer to take them on the day they are “assigned”.

We have had more snow than we have had in past December much colder stretches along with them. The next few days are supposed to be for the better weather wise. One day this week the temps will be close to sixty degrees.

Now that the holidays are over I have some time to look at and use some of the gifts I got. One in particular is a terrarium kit. I am eager to start working on that. I have been looking at some designs that I like. Now we’ll see if I can put them together.

Now I am going to the kitchen to get some more things on the to-do list checked off.

The word today is produce. Art may make a suit of clothes: but nature must produce a man. David Hume. Emergencies have always been necessary to progress. It was darkness which produced the lamp. It was fog that produced the compass. It was hunger that drove us to exploration. And it took a depression to teach us the real value of a job. Victor Hugo. The human tendency to regard little things as important has produced very many great things. Georg Christoph Lichtenberg. The moral virtues, then, are produced in us neither by nature nor against nature. Nature, indeed, prepares in us the ground for their reception, but their complete formation is the product of habit. Aristotle. To produce things and to rear them, To produce, but not to take possession of them, To act, but not to rely on one's own ability, To lead them, but not to master them - This is called profound and secret virtue. Lao-tzu. Whatever is produced in haste goes hastily to waste. Saadi. Times of general calamity and confusion create great minds. The purest ore is produced from the hottest furnace, and the brightest thunderbolt is elicited from the darkest storms. Charles Caleb Colton. Society is produced by our wants and government by our wickedness. Thomas Paine. Such seems to be the disposition of man, that whatever makes a distinction produces rivalry. Samuel Johnson. The instant formal government is abolished, society begins to act. A general association takes place, and common interest produces common security. Thomas Paine. The definition of genius is that it acts unconsciously; and those who have produced immortal works, have done so without knowing how or why. The greatest power operates unseen. William Hazlitt. Truth never yet fell dead in the streets; it has such affinity with the soul of man, the seed however broadcast will catch somewhere and produce its hundredfold. Theodore Parker. Now, what produces a want of demand? A refusal to take from other countries the commodities which they produce. Joseph Hume. Habits are the daughters of action, but then they nurse their mother, and produce daughters after her image, but far more beautiful and prosperous. Jeremy Taylor.  No man can produce great things who is not thoroughly sincere in dealing with himself. James Russell Lowell. Extremes in nature equal ends produce; In man they join to some mysterious use. Alexander Pope. Great countries are those that produce great people. Benjamin Disraeli. Revolutions are the produce of passion, not of sober and tranquil reason. William Godwin. However, I am willing to hear what you can produce from Scripture in favor of any kind of slavery. Samuel Hopkins.

Article summary: The source that I use to share for many of my article also answers questions sent to them from young people. This sight notes their writings as written in “academic rigour (valid), journalistic flair”. I figured it may relate to other instances of the sensation of taste. This article is in answer to a question from a ten year old person. The title is Why does orange juice taste bad after you brush your teeth? Linda Bartoshuk. Research Professor of Psychology, George Washington University. At theconversation.com. Right at the beginning it mentions “the short answer”. I learned that toothpaste has a mild detergent in it’s makeup that aids in dissolving fat. I did a little further research and found that there are specialized cells in the taste buds can detect fatty acids.  I didn’t totally comprehend the chemical process the article mentioned in the digestive processes of food and tastes. As I read further, I remember the fact that tooth paste also removes dental plaque also working in the process of taste. The toothpaste “detergent” reacts to the acid in the breakfast orange juice as other things like sugar and salt. To further describe these interactions there is another compound in the mouth called lipids. Brushing the teeth “disrupts the lipids” changing the perceived taste of that is expected of the orange juice. The article mentioned that there is a test that shows the differences in taste before and after using toothpaste. Simply taste the food before you brush then again after you brush. This shows how the actions of normal substances in the mouth react to the changes of the use of toothpaste. So in this case it show how the sweet and tang of orange juice become bitter after brushing.

I’m having poached cod and rice pilaf for dinner along with roasted green beans for dinner.

Photos in my life today

My first challenge for today is “cheer”. I didn’t have a group of cheer leaders that I would like to have used so I put this one together.

The next upload is “a quiet moment”. This is a couple of my Christmas gifts. The pillow is one my great grand daughter made in her sewing classes. The book was also one of the gifts.

The third upload challenge is titled “minimalist”. I decided to us my kitchen scissors on a blue background.

The last upload is “wildlife in winter”. This one from my archives. I drove by the park looking for squirrel but found no activity, even the birds were quiet. There were no geese on the pond. So this little guy got the nod.
