June 14, 2024 a thought for a day, What the child hears at the fireside is soon known at the parish church. French Proverb
My first upload for yesterday was “photographers choice”. Spring and Summer and parts of Autumn in Ohio are the best times for flower photos. For those three seasons we have a huge variety of colors and shapes.
The third upload is “on weekends I.....” do my curbside grocery pick up. This was a lady parked in front of me as I waited for my pick up. She had her car nearly loaded when mine was coming out of the store.
Life today. It’s been one of those days when one thing gets started then another pops in to be attended to. All of the virtual visits completed, a good start on a letter, followed by thoughts about the photos of the day. Sue left to spend the day with the twins so Sweet Pea and I took off for some lunch and a tour through the neighborhood for ideas for photos. I was able to snap some images for the photos of the day as well as some for the archives and later use when needed.
After I got home and was eating lunch while starting back on the letter, Tami and Andy stopped by. We had some good conversations before they had to leave for other stops.
The first upload for today is another of the “photographers choice”. I am always attracted to this stone all and whatever lies behind as I pass by.Tami and Andy had bought me a balloon for Mothers Day, noted May 12, it is still floating around the dining room and kitchen, noted June 14. It’s a nice memory of loving thoughts as it spot it here and then there .
I am eager for Lowell and Rebecca to be back here close to home. They have been visiting with family having some time off from daily thoughts and jobs.
Another of the uploads today is “food”. I have shelves loaded with food and my freezer needs a little straightening. I hadn’t been to the store today so I didn’t have produce to photograph so I used one of my cupboard shelves.

My life is a lovely story, happy and full of incident. Hans Christian Andersen. Nature is full of genius, full of the divinity; so that not a snowflake escapes its fashioning hand. Henry David Thoreau. My heart, which is so full to overflowing, has often been solaced and refreshed by music when sick and weary. Martin Luther. A human being is not attaining his full heights until he is educated. Horace Mann.
The last upload for today is “I love this view...” This image is one of the many relaxing scenes in a local park near my home. I like the tree showing framed and in the background of the taller trees at the front of the image.Article: Here is another look at why trees and greenery or nature as a whole are good for our health and should be a consideration in our thoughts. The article opens with a description of an episode of Carl Sagan’s Cosmos in 1980s when he was “walking in a forest waxing poetically in a way only a scientist can about the symbiotic relationship between plants and humans”. He further mentioned the scientific discovery that plants “excrete” certain “gasses” that humans need for health and existence while humans do the same for plants. The “gasses” in question are carbon dioxide that plants need and humans breathe out. The other is oxygen that the plants give off and humans need. In this article it is mentioned “We need the trees much more than they need us.” There are plans in areas of the country for “afforestation,” the opposite of deforestation”. Further it mentioned that more trees won’t fully eliminate the problem of atmospheric greenhouse gasses but will go a long way in “curbing” the amount. In 2020 one American city “vowed to plant one million trees by the end of the decade”. The plants also create more shade and increase more heat as needed as well as “atmospheric cleansing capabilities”. (and in my opinion....help with drainage when water is a problem). In Columbus the plan is to achieve 40% coverage by 2050. Another thing that has to be considered is the climate change on the trees themselves. As the trees will become smaller in growth the carbon dioxide/oxygen exchanges would be less. Established forests have to be up kept also as well as new trees planted. After droughts the older trees may be in danger. In some cases destroying trees in the forest settings is a crime as it was during wartime. Something that was interesting to me was that “Plants have social intelligence, releasing chemicals from their roots and leaves to speak to and identify one another”. These characters help them sustain their own growth and health. Science has applied engineering to certain trees (calling them “smart trees”) to make them “more efficient at photosynthesis and thus to grow faster and inhale more carbon from the atmosphere”.
Pizza night has rolled around again.
