September 16, 2024 a thought for today, Pearls around the neck, stones upon the heart. Jewish Proverb
My first challenge for yesterday was “a fence”. You know, when you look around there all kinds of fences. This one could be a fun one.....I may use is as a series one of these days.
bamboo plant as a model and the portrait feature on the Samsung 24+ to help with the DOF.
The next upload for yesterday was “shadows”. I have several in the archives but wanted use one that was shot more currently so I picked this one of the outdoor chairs on the back deck.
image upload. This challenge is titled “complementary colors”. I used one of the shots I took today of the stained glass windows. All of the colors are hard to miss. I chose to use a blur filter to put the colors forward more than the subject of the window.
Life today. It’s been the typical Monday with getting a start on the bulletin. This Monday had just a bit of a difference from the majority of my Mondays, the cleaning lady was here. She comes once a month to do the part of the cleaning that has become a little more of a problem than it use to be for me. After she left I had to go out in search of the photos for today’s challenges.
While Nancy was here I worked on a photo collage for the Sunday School classes lesson yesterday. A while back we had a bit of a problem with our web domain name. That bumped us out of our Instagram account until we renewed it. So I had to go though some hoops to get us back on line before I could to the upload. Now we are happily back on line and the lesson photos and descriptions are up.
The first challenge upload for today is “a bathtub”. This challenge title is one that seems elementary to me. But what the heck. I am sure there could be some really fancy and artful ones. Mine is a little on the “everyday” kind.We are having another gorgeous day. It started out cool but is warming up quickly. I think this coming week is the official beginning of autumn. More leaves are beginning to show their colors.
This is the first week of pantry for the month. Sue still has a couple of places to go for more work on getting out from under the quandaries connected with owning a car. I will take her to handle some of that before food pantry.
Andy is getting better from the back surgery as it takes a good bit of time to get “back to normal”. Lowell has some projects going on too. So it looks like I will have a little less time with both Tami and Lowell for a few days.
The second upload for today is “a statue”. I found in this search that there are not to many “statues” in my area. This one caught my fancy. It looks like a cocker spaniel with her puppy.
The word for today is none. A friend to all is a friend to none. Aristotle. Show respect to all people, but grovel to none. Tecumseh. None are so old as those who have outlived enthusiasm. Henry David Thoreau. The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul. Johann Sebastian Bach. None are so empty as those who are full of themselves. Benjamin Whichcote. 'You are no saint,' says the devil. Well, if I am not, I am a sinner, and Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. Sink or swim, I go to Him; other hope, I have none. Charles Spurgeon. The greatest of faults, I should say, is to be conscious of none. Thomas Carlyle. All men profess honesty as long as they can. To believe all men honest would be folly. To believe none so is something worse. John Quincy Adams. None can love freedom heartily, but good men; the rest love not freedom, but licence. John Milton. In politics the middle way is none at all. John Adams. He that respects himself is safe from others. He wears a coat of mail that none can pierce. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The beggar wears all colors fearing none. Charles Lamb. Truth is handsomer than the affectation of love. Your goodness must have some edge to it, else it is none. Ralph Waldo Emerson. Please all, and you will please none. Aesop. Every religion is good that teaches man to be good; and I know of none that instructs him to be bad. Thomas Paine. Toleration is good for all, or it is good for none. Edmund Burke.
This last upload for today starts my series of “black and white”. This is at my nearby metro park. I like black and white photos. It may be a generational thing for me.
Article. I am glad when a historical building can find new life rather than being torn down to make room for something more “modern.” This article is about the “revival” of the Holy Rosary Church on Mains Street. The hope is to turn the church building into a “desirable, diverse area”. The hopes are that the “historic church can anchor the redevelopment of one of the longtime commercial corridors on Columbus’ East Side”. They hope to turn the church into an “event and performance space while keeping it available for religious services on Sunday mornings”. In 2022 the church was bought and about “$450,000" was spent in repairing and “tightening” the building in anticipation of redeveloping it”. In 1916 there was an Italianate style bell tower added to the building. The property also includes an adjacent farmhouse from the 1840s that served as the church’s rectory”. The plan is to possibly turn it into an inn. The church was originally closed in the 1970s. Another church bought it and use it for 16 years. Then it “fell into disrepair”. In “2018 (it) was placed on Columbus Landmarks’ Most Endangered Buildings list”. The company planning on making these changes has bought other properties adjacent to these and plans several renovations in the process of building up the neighborhood. The plans are for covert buildings into commercial space and a restaurant. There is a partnering going on with a company working in the Franklinton area. There are hopes that this area will be populated with cafes, art galleries, coffee shops , restaurants and retail. There was an interview with someone in the area who said they will believe it when they see it.
It’s going to be hot dog (coney’s) and mac and cheese for dinner.
