September 6, 2024 a thought for today, If you are going to fall it's muddy everywhere. Japanese Proverb

One challenge for yesterday was “shoot straight upward”. This is one of the evergreen trees in my backyard. There is a peek of the sky through the branches and greenery of the needles.

The next upload for the 5th was “a cup of tea”. I have one cup of hot tea in the morning. The rest of my tea comes in the form of iced tea throughout the day.

The third upload for yesterday was “a pair”. I looked for one of the closest to had pair of anything I could find for this image. This is a pair of working gloves that I found in the tool drawer.

Yesterday was one of the days of the month that I had a fourth upload for the day. This on is one is “ordinary thing”. This is a set of some sort of utility pipes on the side of the building at my church.

Life today. Last night’s meeting was good. The sun was going down earlier than I expected so, due to my vision problems, I had to leave a little early. The people in these meetings are my friends, my church family. I would miss being with them. The once a week or so meetings are good for me, I need them.  I have to leave early sometimes but just the “reach out and touch” even for short periods is what I need. I recently had to drop my membership in the choir which was very important to me for more than one reason. But I have reached a time my life where it is best to break away.

An upload for today is “ordinary thing”. As I stopped for a sandwich at Wendy’s there were two young boys stopping for a drink. When they went inside, they dropped their bikes. I took the opportunity for a good shot.

This has been a Friday unlike most and a good one. Andy, my-son-in law, had spinal surgery yesterday. So I wanted to stop for a short visit. As some of you may who know me know, I don’t like to drive off the west side of Columbus for my own safety as well as others who may be on the streets. I feel safer that way. Anyway, Sue agreed to go with me to visit him. He is in a Grove City hospital so it isn’t far but not quite part of my “stomping ground”. I have driven it before so many of the sights along the way are familiar to me. Along with that is the drive to get there is pretty straight meaning without twists and turns to be looking for. He is feeling some discomfort but seems to be getting along well, considering. He should be going home tomorrow. It was good to see Andy and it was good to have time with my sister.

I think I have whined enough for now in the above paragraphs so I will move on.

I finished one book last night and downloaded another digitally from the library. So begins a new “relationship” with the characters and a new story of a life, fictional or with a bit of a life’s truth.

The next upload is “sunrise”. I had to visit the archives for this one. I’m not up that early. I miss some  f the most beautiful views because I am not up before the sun.

The word for today is most.  Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time. Thomas A. Edison.  The most I can do for my friend is simply be his friend. Henry David Thoreau. One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and to be understood. Lucius Annaeus Seneca. The friend in my adversity I shall always cherish most. I can better trust those who helped to relieve the gloom of my dark hours than those who are so ready to enjoy with me the sunshine of my prosperity. Ulysses S. Grant.  Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us. Martin Luther.   Sincerity makes the very least person to be of more value than the most talented hypocrite. Charles Spurgeon.  To sit in the shade on a fine day and look upon verdure is the most perfect refreshment. Jane Austen.  To attain any assured knowledge about the soul is one of the most difficult things in the world. Aristotle.  Of all possessions a friend is the most precious. Herodotus.  Sorrow is knowledge, those that know the most must mourn the deepest, the tree of knowledge is not the tree of life. Lord Byron.  Man is most nearly himself when he achieves the seriousness of a child at play. Heraclitus.  The oldest, shortest words - 'yes' and 'no' - are those which require the most thought. Pythagoras.  Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you. Ralph Waldo Emerson.  Keep silence for the most part, and speak only when you must, and then briefly. Epictetus.  Friendship is the source of the greatest pleasures, and without friends even the most agreeable pursuits become tedious. Thomas Aquinas.

The last upload for the day is “hot”. I decided to use the setting on my air fryer for this image.

Article: Here a bit of history before Columbus was Columbus Ohio. We grew after and with Marietta. Marietta Ohio, Ohio’s First City. The story begins in 1788. Not only the first city in Ohio, it was the first “official American settlement territory north and west of the Ohio River”. It was then called the Riverboat Town. We can find it at confluence of the Ohio and Muskingum rivers”. The article tells us that “earliest visitors arrived more than 2,000 years ago”. People still visit the area by the thousands to experience the “charm, natural beauty, flowing rivers and rich heritage”. The area grew from the beginning with “early Indian encampments to stations on the Underground Railroad, to the state’s first library”. There are Indian mounds, covered bridges and a castle where you can see an extensive exhibit in history. There are surrounding towns that were not visited realizing that “most white pioneers due to indigenous residents understandably unwilling to cede or share their homeland”. The article says that the area of Marietta draws visitors who have a passion for history, charming small towns, and eating locally sourced foods”. The Muskingum River the longest navigable waterway in Ohio. In visiting the nearby areas of Marietta there are 64,000 acres with 300 miles of hiking, biking and climbing adventures at the “Wayne National Forest, Ohio’s only national forest along the Ohio River”. Fisherman can “reel in a catfish at one of the best fishing spots in the state at Willow Island Lock and Dam”.

Pizza night!!!
