September 26, 2024 a thought for the day, The first step toward greatness is to be honest. Traditional Proverb

The first photo challenge upload for yesterday was “a rooftop”. As Sweet Pea and I were waiting for Sue. We took a short walk, short due to the distance my legs allow.  This is one of the things we saw in our walk. It is a roof over the entrance to the building.

The next upload for yesterday was also taken on that short walk. The title to the challenge was “peace in nature”. This “set” of trees and their particular spacing and shape along with the blue sky background was a strong sense of peace for me at that moment.

This upload for yesterday was in my series of “minimalist” image, a single item with little background scatter. I’m not sure of the purpose of this particular tower, some kind of communication I imaging.

Life today. Food panty this month was full of bits of surprises, all turned out to be just hiccups and after the fact kind of amusing. It adds spice to my life, hopefully some of the other volunteers lives too. I’ve been with this pantry for more than twenty years. I have gained so much, some unbelievably warming and lighting up my life. It also brings with it all sorts of knowledge adding to the growth of wisdom.

Today was very quiet at church. Patti is on vacation. The group meeting that use to be there every week day at 8:30 has moves to a new location. So there was absolutely no one in the church, which made a beautiful time in the sanctuary for me as I passed through with the bulletin. I got both the bulletin and the newsletter printing done in excellent time.

The first upload for today is another in the  “minimalist” series. We have a gorgeous church inside and out. There are fascinating things gracing its total architecture besides the obvious Presence. So I try to snap photos when I can of the down-to-earth-everyday-objects to share. Some of the things that can promote thought and often a smile. The next image upload is taken in the same place.

As I was getting out of my car to go into the church, I dropped my house keys between the car seat and the middle console. I spent a few minutes looking to no avail and went on in to do my work. I checked to try to get them when I came out....still no luck. I stopped at the post office. Then to McDonalds. Once I got home, I checked again with the flash light on my cell phone. I saw them. I stretched and reached them....success.

Sue had some more paper work on the car to take care of today. Since I don’t drive too far from the west side and since I had the printing to do at work, she had Tami take her. Andy went along for the ride. I got to see Tami for a few minutes. She brought the can up from the curb for me.

I had time to make the meat balls for Sweet Pea and then start the laundry. I nearly forgot the laundry but finally got stated a couple of hours later than I would normally have.

This second image upload for today is “bookshelf”. There are a lot of interesting and some very old books in this library. It also serves as a meeting room and most recently as one of the Sunday School class rooms.

The word today is many. Success is sweet and sweeter if long delayed and gotten through many struggles and defeats. Amos Bronson Alcott.  Many a man curses the rain that falls upon his head, and knows not that it brings abundance to drive away the hunger. Saint Basil.  However many holy words you read, however many you speak, what good will they do you if you do not act on upon them? Buddha. 'The time has come,' the walrus said, 'to talk of many things: of shoes and ships - and sealing wax - of cabbages and kings.' Lewis Carroll.  Prosperity is not without many fears and distastes; adversity not without many comforts and hopes. Francis Bacon.  There are many truths of which the full meaning cannot be realized until personal experience has brought it home. John Stuart Mill.  There's a great power in words, if you don't hitch too many of them together. Josh Billings.  Many admire, few know. Hippocrates.  Accustom yourself continually to make many acts of love, for they enkindle and melt the soul. Saint Teresa of Avila.  Avoid popularity; it has many snares, and no real benefit. William Penn.  Many believe - and I believe - that I have been designated for this work by God. In spite of my old age, I do not want to give it up; I work out of love for God and I put all my hope in Him. Michelangelo.  Our country may be likened to a new house. We lack many things, but we possess the most precious of all - liberty! James Monroe. A man lives by believing something: not by debating and arguing about many things. Thomas Carlyle.  There are many victories worse than a defeat. George Eliot. Knowledge may give weight, but accomplishments give lustre, and many more people see than weigh. Herodotus.

The last challenge upload for today is “childhood”. This is an elementary school in our neighborhood. It is not the school I attended but my children did. It seems to need a bit of a touch up but it served its purpose then and seems to be doing well now too.

Article: Halloween and the harvest season are at our door step. This article is about some of the fun that accompanies this season of the year. “Pumpkins, Hay rides, and S’mores: The Ultimate Fall Fest Is Happening at Slate Run”. The free festivities will happen October 12 from 11 to 3. There will be the corn maze and “leisurely” hay rides. Along with that fun there will be archery, a pumpkin patch, crafts and games. The article mentioned that along with all the festivities there will be music and live performances. The snacks and sweets will be s’mores! Other foods will be available from food trucks. Slate Run is one of the interesting parks in the Columbus Metro Park system. There are 1,700 acres of “diverse landscapes”. One of the things that make it an “interesting” park is that it allows families to experience “life as it was in the 1880s”. Another thing that the visit at the festival may include might be a hike on the provided trails.

Some thing from the freezer for dinner.

Joy
