June 1, 2025 a thought for today, While the boy is small, you can see the man. Chinese Proverb

The first upload for yesterday was “something blue”. I captured two blues. The sky, of course, I’m not sure what the other one is. I picked it for a capture due to the blue light.

The second upload for “a taste of summer”. I traveled the neighborhood streets looking for hanging baskets full of blooming flowers. I found a few but was more taken with this pot of colorful blooming flowers.

The last upload was “towel”. Most of my towels are solid white, not so photogenic. So I chose this one with a touch of color.

Life today. What a beautiful Sunday. The church service was nice with a little extra “excitement” for me at least. The girl who interviewed for the piano job, the one Gail and I “discovered”, was there to observe how our order of worship goes. That increased my hopes for her and for us. My first information was that she initially had some difficulty playing from the hymnal. However, the interest still seems to be there on both sides and with some practice I think she would be perfect, that’s my personal opinion. We have a couple of other possibles so we will see.

We had communion today, that is always a lift to my soul. After the service there was a Deacons meeting that I try to attend when scheduled.

The first upload for this day of the new month is “the mess I’m ignoring”. This is a book case that I keep putting off straightening. It has some very old books and a bunch of nuisance ads that don’t need to be there.  This particular group of photo a day challenges will be a little different than most of my other “assigned challenges” for this month. They are going to be a little more challenging with some that will be kind of “telling” when it comes to things we hold on to and the like.

After I left I came right home since I had an invitation to go to lunch with Luanna and Lowell, Rebecca is out of town. They came to pick me up about twenty minutes after I got home. We went to Red Lobster, one on my list of favorites, that is for when I get an invite to go out for a meal.

As usual for Sunday there has been little on my agenda. I started the letter and the photo assignments/ challenges” before I left and finished the cataloging after I got home and had washed my hair.

Now it is time to upload the photos and send the letters by email.

This second upload for today is “nostalgia”. This is the only year book I kept from my high school, the year I graduated.

The word is been. I do not know what I may appear to the world, but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me. Isaac Newton.  It has been my experience that folks who have no vices have very few virtues. Abraham Lincoln.  I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do. Leonardo da Vinci. Re-examine all that you have been told... dismiss that which insults your soul. Walt Whitman.  Everyone has been made for some particular work, and the desire for that work has been put in every heart. Rumi.  Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed... Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders. Henry David Thoreau.  I would go to the deeps a hundred times to cheer a downcast spirit. It is good for me to have been afflicted, that I might know how to speak a word in season to one that is weary. Charles Spurgeon.  Forgiveness is the remission of sins. For it is by this that what has been lost, and was found, is saved from being lost again. Saint Augustine. Adapt yourself to the things among which your lot has been cast and love sincerely the fellow creatures with whom destiny has ordained that you shall live. Marcus Aurelius. Having been poor is no shame, but being ashamed of it, is. Benjamin Franklin.

The last upload for today is “from a distance. This is at the end of a block in my neighborhood and the water tower in the local park.

Article: I have visited Cincinnati many times for my job in my working years. I never had the time to visit the zoo. Now I think I may have missed a wonderful opportunity, especially with my photography hobby. The article title is “Comparing Our Beloved Columbus Zoo to the Cincinnati Zoo”. It was written by a man who began with telling about his family having traveled to four zoos over a five night period. The trip ended at the Cincinnati zoo. He mentioned that he and his family are “fans” of our Columbus zoo and had decided that they wanted to compare other “options”. He said the visits were a “different vibe”. He chose to “interview” his three kids to compare the two zoos, Cincinnati and Columbus. First the discussion was about “visibility” of the animals. They found that the animals at the Cincinnati zoo were very active. He noted that the animals at the Cincinnati zoo were “generally closer than in Columbus”. Some other highlights of the Cincinnati zoo were: the lion roar was “consistent” and “slightly jarring”. The tunneling system of the ants was a “sight to behold”. Thousands of ants working together “across an enormous system of tubes was mesmerizing. They family was able to get “super close” to the giraffes. He said that the kids noted that the “monkeys as memorable”. One of his kids wanted to make it known that animals have feelings too and “you either catch them on a good day or a bad day.”  His kids noted how clean the viewing glass was. Another of the features they mentioned that caught my attention was “the tunnel to the bubble viewing window where the kids came right up into the center of an animal enclosure”. As the article went on he mentioned that at the Columbus zoo there is more “interactivity” opportunities. One of the kids mentioned that when they go to the Columbus zoo they pack a lunch. That wasn’t easy for the visit to the Cincinnati zoo since they were on the road of visits. So they had to buy food in Cincinnati. He went on to mention that “wayfinding” in Cincinnati “was a challenge”. The maps were a “little confusing” and there could be “more signage overall”. The kids liked that the zoo is in the city of Cincinnati instead of in the suburbs. Both zoos have a train and a “carousel”. His daughter said the Columbus zoo is bigger and hard to beat. He ended with if you “don’t mind a two hour car ride, the Cincinnati Zoo is beyond worth the price of admission.”

Dinner will be light tonight.
