June 3, 2025 a thought for today, It is the beautiful bird that we put in the cage. Chinese Proverb
The first upload for yesterday was “empty”. I could have emptied an egg carton or imaged an empty bottle, I chose to use an empty chair.
Life today. This is turning out to be a comfortably paced day. There is not a lot planned with deadline-type directions. This kind of leads to multi-tasking with direction as the urge presents itself, like stop this thing to light some candles or bring up a can from the curb, plant some seeds, make some photos or any other small-scale tasks and needs. I do still have a couple of small things I need to do for church before time to printing.
The first upload for today is “accidental art”. This is a crack in my driveway. When I shot the photo there was a strong shadow of the chain link fence across the blacktop.I think Spring temps are finally here. I am not sure I should be applauding that just yet with all this strange weather we have had during the winter and onward. At least it is a sample and for today a good one. It’s a quiet afternoon here. I don’t hear any lawn equipment in progress either. Speaking of which, Sue mentions to me often in the spring and summer how she misses the sound of a push type mower, the kind we heard when were kids into teens all those years ago. She also like birds singing and cicadas sounding their presence. We call them “the good ol’ days”. But there were no cell phones and for the most part no AC. There were porch swings and open doors and windows.
The next upload is another of “my choice” and another of my “doors” series. I like showing doors on something other than buildings. The word today is body. Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body. Joseph Addison. To keep the body in good health is a duty... otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear. Buddha. True enjoyment comes from activity of the mind and exercise of the body; the two are ever united. Wilhelm von Humboldt. Water, stories, the body, all the things we do, are mediums that hid(e) and show what's hidden. Rumi. In the morning a man walks with his whole body; in the evening, only with his legs. Ralph Waldo Emerson. Let us form one body, one heart, and defend to the last warrior our country, our homes, our liberty, and the graves of our fathers. Tecumseh. There are thoughts which are prayers. There are moments when, whatever the posture of the body, the soul is on its knees. Victor Hugo. If any thing is sacred, the human body is sacred. Walt Whitman. All are but parts of one stupendous whole, Whose body Nature is, and God the soul. Alexander Pope. Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day. Thomas Jefferson. It is not the soul alone that should be healthy; if the mind is healthy in a healthy body, all will be healthy and much better prepared to give God greater service. Saint Ignatius. Every man casts a shadow; not his body only, but his imperfectly mingled spirit. This is his grief. Let him turn which way he will, it falls opposite to the sun; short at noon, long at eve. Did you never see it? Henry David Thoreau. Courage conquers all things: it even gives strength to the body. Ovid. If zeal had been appropriate for putting humanity right, why did God the Word clothe himself in the body, using gentleness and humility in order to bring the world back to his Father? Isaac of Nineveh.
The last photo challenge for today is “look up”. So I looked up my stairs to the second story to capture the top of the artificial potted plant at the top on the landing.Article: The idea of Green Line is the part of the title that drew my attention, so lets explore. The title of the article is: “Housing Planned for Green Line-Adjacent Industrial Site”. This is supposed to be “affordable housing to a former salvage yard” that is referring to the housing that is planned. The housing unit will be a 316-unit apartment complex. There will be one, two and three bedroom apartments. According to the article the affordable part is where the tenants earning would be “60 percent of the area median income”. They are hoping to “addresses the city’s urgent need for housing while also remediating a site with environmental challenges”. Since the land is on a former “industrial site” there will be clean up using “remediation tactics” which would include “soil removal and encapsulation”. It will include an a “green line” at the edge of an “abandoned rail corridor”. The green line will be “a three-mile-long linear park and trail that will be called the Eastmoor Green Line”. “Further Google research“Green Lines: Functions of a Green Line: Urban Growth Management: Green lines help to manage and direct urban growth, preventing excessive expansion into surrounding areas. Open Space Preservation: They protect green spaces, such as parks, forests, and natural areas, for recreation, ecological preservation, and scenic beauty. Agricultural Land Protection: In some cases, green lines are used to safeguard agricultural lands and protect the local food supply. Sustainable Development: By limiting sprawl, green lines can help promote more compact and sustainable urban development patterns. Resource Allocation: They can also influence where resources for infrastructure and capital improvements are focused within the city. Community Identity: Green lines can contribute to a sense of place and community identity by defining the boundaries of urban areas.”
I am making salmon burgers and corn fritters for dinner.
