July 10, 2023 a thought for today, False in one respect, never trustworthy. Latin Proverb
An upload for July 9, 2023 was “o is for....”. A well seen object in this day and age.....an orange barrel....this on a little worse for the ware.Bob has a week of appointments. Rebecca took him to the one this morning and there will be a teleconference “appointment” this afternoon. Hopefully this means things are beginning to take a more positive and forward move.
There was a rash of frozen TV shows last night followed by a couple of power outages in the form of flashes as on then back on quickly making it necessary to reset clocks. When such things happen near bed time I worry about what might be causing them. Most importantly if the outages were something to be concerned about as far as electrical fire hazards.
Another upload for yesterday was “yellow”. This is one of the many holders of poles in the parking areas of malls and groceries. I separated the background to change to black and white so the yellow would stand out better.Sue is spending some more time with the twins. She is so glad she is able to have this time with them before they “outgrow” the need for grandma very often.
I had a quick facetime with two of my great grandchildren yesterday. I enjoy them even if it is a quick look at their faces and a short catch up on what their life is like. It was quite different when my grandchildren were growing up. There were phone calls, “care packages” and photos now and then. But facetime makes things seem more personal and closer. I don’t like to interfere in their lives but I do treasure quick updates and connections maybe once a week or so. I do get information about them on facebook. They grow up so fast and move onto new adventures.
The first upload for today is “y is for...”. In this case I used my very well used yearbook as my prop for the image. The word for today is adapt. The most important factor in survival is neither intelligence nor strength but adaptability, Charles Darwin. Change is the only constant in life. Ones ability to adapt to those changes will determine your success in life, Benjamin Franklin. In our lives, change is unavoidable, loss is unavoidable. In the adaptability and ease with which we experience change, lies our happiness and freedom, Gautama Buddha. We first make our habits, then our habits make us, John Dryden. It's too late to be studying Hebrew; it's more important to understand even the slang of today, Henry David Thoreau. The wise man has no firm principles. He adapts to others, Lao-Tse. To teach successfully we must tell all we know, but only what is adaptable to the student. Jean-Francois de La Harpe. We must make the best of those ills which cannot be avoided, Alexander Hamilton. Sometimes, occasions occur in life which demand you to be a little foolish in order to skillfully extricate yourself, Francois de La Rochefoucauld. The excellence of every government is its adaptation to the state of those to be governed by it, Thomas Jefferson.
The next upload for today is “my choice”. I liked the composition of the shadows on the plain background in this image. It was taken while I was on a break at the Columbus State Community College a few years back.I think it’s great that seniors are learning to use the computer and new technology. There is the chance for so many wonderful connections to the world. All good when common sense enters the picture. The title to the article is: “Program helps seniors gain tech confidence”. The instructor teaches the seniors at the Central Community House on Main Street how to use and feel at ease using a computer. She was surprised to see that one of her six senior students for the day had already found how to mute and stop a video on Google Meet. These classes are free with the Technology Assistant Project (TAP). It is four classes for residents’ ages 60 and over. They each are given a laptop for the training purposes and are then allowed to keep them. As the instructor began the class she “said internet browsers are like binders, and the tabs are like tabs used to separate the papers within a binder”. This program, TAP, at present includes 224 people and is “funded” in several ways, one being the Franklin County Office on Aging. Spectrum also contributed. The program started during the pandemic. It became a big success partially due to the fact that it “connected” learning with fun activities. The article related that during the pandemic seniors, like many other, lost connection with others so learning to read online and use email, video chat and others parts of the computer helped with that in an enormous was. The article went on to say that now there is a wait list for the classes. The instructors teach first how to control the volume and keys that open commands. Then how to use Google Meet, then how to use documents. After four weeks they can come back for a session in asking specific questions. Once the classes are complete the participants say they are able to be closer to their families and to enjoy “access critical resources”.
This was a day for three uploads. My third upload for today is “ abstract flowers or plants”. I added a filter to an image of my holly hock flowers to get this swirled design.I think we will combine left overs with a beer battered fish for dinner tonight.
