July 8, 2023 a thought for today, Truth does not need many words. Russian Proverb

My first upload for yesterday was “I is for....”..iron. I had several “I” items lined up. I liked this one the best of the selection for colors, shapes and positions.

Looks like it is going to be a wet Saturday afternoon. I have the grocery-pick-up out of the way. It was just Sweet Pea and me for the “grocery run” for this week. (Bob was asleep).

Sue is with the twins today. She planned on taking them swimming, hope the rain holds off long enough for them to enjoy fun in the pool for a while.

The second upload was “my choice”. I really don’t know why this one seems to catch my attention every time I see it. Maybe that is for the bright color on the sign, the plain background of vertical lines and the one small off center object to the left.

I have some “chores” to get out of the way today. Sweet Pea is in need of her meat ball treats so I will be making those this afternoon, (I make enough for about a month). The frig and dishwasher needs tended to also. So it looks like there will be a couple of hours in the kitchen. Since I have a problem being on my feet too long at a time, the afternoon chores will be a multi-tasking kind of process. I will also have to set up some props for today’s photo a day images.

Then first upload for today is “c is for....”  C is for country road in this case. On the way to Mt. Sterling, Ohio.

The word today is action.  Well done is better than well said, Benjamin Franklin.   Every man is the son of his actions, Spanish proverb.  The shortest answer is doing, George Herbert.  He that waits upon Fortune, is never sure of a Dinner, Benjamin Franklin. Nothing is more terrible than to see ignorance in action, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. All the beautiful sentiments in the world weigh less than a single lovely action, James Russell Lowell. It is well to think well; it is divine to act well, Horace Mann.   He who does a good deed is instantly ennobled. He who does a mean deed is by the action itself contracted, Ralph Waldo Emerson.  In the arena of human life the honors and rewards fall to those who show their good qualities in action, Aristotle. All our actions take their hue from the complexion of the heart, as landscapes their variety from light, Francis Bacon. Action without a name, a who attached to it, is meaningless, St. Jerome.  It is in vain to say human beings ought to be satisfied with tranquility: they must have action; and they will make it if they cannot find it, Charlotte Bronte.  Thus every matter if it is to be done well calls for the attention of the whole person, Martin Luther.  A word that has been said may be unsaid-it is but air. But when a deed is done, it cannot be undone, nor can our thoughts reach out to all the mischiefs that may follow, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Never confuse motion with action, Benjamin Franklin.  We would often be ashamed of our best actions if the world knew the motives behind them, François de La Rochefoucauld.

The second upload for today is “reflections”. This was taken on one of the old Mt. Carmel parking garages that faced downtown Columbus. This is part of the Columbus skyline reflected in the building windows.

More greenery in our city, “A New Urban Forest Grows on the Far South Side”. In November a project was started to plant 2,400 trees in a small park on Lockbourne Road. The hope for them is to offer benefits of an urban forest in a locale that can use some trees. In 2020 a school and the land it occupied in the area was bought by the City of Columbus. It was next door to Stockbridge Park. The building and parking lot were demolished adding eleven more acres to the eleven acres of the park itself. The trees and the planting task was partially financed by the Clean Ohio Green Space Conservation Program. The trees came in containers and root balls in burlap forms. There are thirty-one native species including hickories, buckeyes, dogwood, spruce, pine, and six species of oaks. There are patch walkways through the “forest”. The paths lead to the playground and shelter along with two new pollinator habitats. There are tentative plans for more of this style “forest” in the city. Only 22 percent of the city has a light coverage of trees, less than Cincinnati and Pittsburgh. The city has plans for “about 4,000 street and  park trees this year”. There have also been changes in the city code to “protect and preserve existing trees, such as increasing the fines for cutting down a city tree”.

It is going to be something from the freezer for dinner or hot dogs.

Joy

perhaps a new slat and some paint?
