July 6, 2023 a thought for today, The scythe ran into a stone. Russian Proverb
One of the uploads for yesterday was “p is for....”. In this case P is for pecans. I had a couple of other images in mind but as I went further into the kitchen to get some of my props my eye caught this bag of pecans....that was the best choice. It has been a normal Thursday up until now. From now to noon we are expecting a home nurse to give us some updates on meds and such for Bob. After that, from noon to four, we are expecting the AC tech for a check up in that venue. We, Bob and I, were planning on an outing to take care of some of his errands but we will have to put those off until we can find a break in open time space.
Another upload for yesterday was “my choice”. This image was created on my last visit to the Ohio Village by the fair grounds in Columbus.I printed the bulletin in good time this morning and dropped off the envelopes for the ones we mail out.
Now I will have to start the laundry for the week to finish off the day, except for the photo of the day. By then it will be dinner time prep.
This is one of those days when I have a third photo a day upload. The title for this assignment is “long shadows”. The shadows in the neighbors yard makes for some interesting shapes and contrast between light and dark. The word for the day is wind. The morning wind spreads its fresh smell. We must get up and take that in, that wind that lets us live. Breathe before it's gone, Rumi. I hear the wind among the trees Playing the celestial symphonies; I see the branches downward bent, Like keys of some great instrument, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Wind feeds the fire, and wind extinguishes: The flames are nourished by a gentle breeze, Yet, if it stronger grows, they sink and die, Ovid. Every wind is fare when we are flying from misfortune, Sophocles. A great wind is blowing, and that gives you either imagination or a headache, Catherine the Great. How refreshing is the breeze which now fans my forehead! — it seems like the sweet breath of a guardian Angel, Charles Lanman. Wind is a floating wave of air, whose undulation continually varies, Vitruvius. As winds come whispering lightly from the West, Kissing, not ruffling, the blue deep's serene, Lord Byron. When a man does not know what harbor he is making for, no wind is the right wind, Marcus Annaeus Seneca. If the wind will not serve, take to the oars, Latin Proverb. Blow, blow, thou winter wind, Thou art not so unkind As man’s ingratitude, William Shakespeare. Anger is a wind which blows out the lamp of the mind. Robert Green Ingersoll. The little reed, bending to the force of the wind, soon stood upright again when the storm had passed over. Aesop. Words empty as the wind are best left unsaid. Homer. Human misery must somewhere have a stop; there is no wind that always blows a storm. Euripides. There is no good in arguing with the inevitable. The only argument available with an east wind is to put on your overcoat. James Russell Lowell. To attempt to advise conceited people is like whistling against the wind. Thomas Hood.
My first upload for today is “b is for....”. I had to do some searching for this one. I found this gift bag that I had decorated in with paper quilled pieces. I may have uploaded an image of the design in an earlier blog.More improvements, growth or simply changes in Columbus buildings are coming in two Columbus sites with “awarded Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credits today”. One is at a building that may be familiar to people who visited the west side of the downtown landscape along the river front. It is located at 145 S. Front Street, it use to be the state office building built in 1964. The plan is to “transform the building into a mixed-use development featuring 100 apartments, two floors of office space and a ground-floor restaurant”. The other building mentioned in the article is the former McClure-Nesbitt Motor Company. A previous plan for the building was for it to be a theater and gallery with apartments on the second floor. The newer plan is for the renovation dealing with retail, restaurants and office space. There is some work currently under way on other “historic” structures in Columbus. The former Continental Centre on Gay Street and more to the renovation of Starling Middle School in Franklinton – work is now underway on both projects.” The building on Front Street will have a two level parking garage. There will also be a terrace overlooking the Scioto River. The other building has been vacant for decades and is in “disrepair”. The renovation there will involve the “Art Deco style building” re-visioned to restaurants and office spaces. These changes will hopefully contribute to “economic activity on Main Street and helping to transform the area.”
The second upload for today is “my choice”. This is an image from my archives although I see this view every day as I drive out Broad Street. I like the lines and their forms as well as the contrasts in color and patterns.
We will be having hash from the stew I made yesterday for dinner tonight.
