January 14, 2025 a thought for today, You cannot be a broom and remain clean. Hebrew Proverb
My first upload for yesterday was “happy”. Sweet Pea as happy as a bug-in-a-rug to be able to take a nice nap in the sun from the window.
was a door partially open/closed. Then I thought of a zipper.
Life today. We are experiencing another very cold day. It started out at something like 9 degrees. It is now 21 degrees, the warmest it will be today. Tomorrow is predicted to be the same. There is a message here, someday we will understand. In the mean time experiencing the life we have, the whole life we have including nature.
I spent part of the day beginning the next newsletter where I am every day at my desk and in my new desk chair. I also took time to make the next batch of chicken flavored meatballs for Sweet Pea.
I am concerned about how the temperature range in this house has a wide spread. The upstairs is “toasty” warm, very comfortable when taking a shower. The street level is .... well, something different. I have a space heater, that I am not fond of trusting, running. The house is old and stands with the construction necessities of its time. It has been a home of love and memories for 95 years. It is and has been a place to learn and grow through all kinds of weather changes. Still standing, longer than some built after its time. So we will, as has been lived all of those years, deal with it one way or another.
The first challenge upload for today is “home”. This is my house, my home of about fifty plus years.I had thought about going out around noon for my one vice....McDonald’s fish and fries....but thought better of it. I was a little leery of becoming stuck in an icey rut in the couple of blocks that it would take to get to a larger roadway. Anyway, I settled to heated over spaghetti and deviled eggs. Now I am glancing out the window and seeing some new snow flakes.
I am going to have two of my great grand children here for a while tomorrow. We may try to make some snow bubbles. It is one of my upcoming photo challenges and something new to me, something I never heard of let alone try to do.
The second upload for today is “entrance”. Looking out one of my two front doors, showing the winter view outside the entrance. The word to day is return. The mind ought sometimes to be diverted that it may return to better thinking. Phaedrus. Incredulity robs us of many pleasures, and gives us nothing in return. James Russell Lowell. He travels best that knows when to return. Thomas Middleton. All things flourish, and each returns to its source. Laozi. For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return. Leonardo da Vinci. The people when rightly and fully trusted will return the trust. Abraham Lincoln. Of course, he who has put forth his total strength in fit actions, has the richest return of wisdom. Ralph Waldo Emerson. Drive Nature from your door with a pitchfork, and she will return again and again. Horace. And he departed from our sight that we might return to our hearts and find him there. For he left us, and behold, he is here. Saint Augustine. For life is but a dream whose shapes return, some frequently, some seldom, some by night and some by day. James Thomson. A kindness received should be returned with a freer hand. Saint Ambrose. Nations, like stars, are entitled to eclipse. All is well, provided the light returns and the eclipse does not become endless night. Dawn and resurrection are synonymous. The reappearance of the light is the same as the survival of the soul. Victor Hugo. An angry man is again angry with himself when he returns to reason. Publilius Syrus. That which the fountain sends forth returns again to the fountain. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. One returns to the place one came from. Jean de La Fontaine.
The last upload for today is “old” I took this photo along time ago just after I went on a photo excursion to the old and closed brewer district in our downtown area.Article: This story is right in time for this heavy weather we are having. The title is: Are you too old to shovel snow? What experts say about health risk. It begins with telling teenagers to “break out your shovels”. This statement is warning people that if they are over 45 and may have “certain medical conditions” they should likely not be shoveling snow. All the snow means freeing temps where we see people out of breath from huffing and puffing as they shovel the snow. The article share that is may be more hazardous thought, maybe even fatal. Some of the figures is passed on are 200,000 adults have been treated in emergency rooms. From 1990 ro 2006 more than 1,600 death were reported. It suggests that people over 45 “should be cautious” as they’re more likely to be part of an age group that’s at a higher risk of injury or fatality when snow shoveling, an American Heart Association (AHA) spokesperson told USAToday”. There are risks of falls and muscle injuries not to mention the risks to hearts. Heart rates go up and the cold temps dan cause a “vasoconstriction,” or a narrowing, of the blood vessels that raises your blood pressure even more”. When people hold their breath as some times happen, that “increases heart rate and blood pressure.” The article also notes that everyone should be cautious in shoveling snow as they grow older. Some of the tips for solving are pace your shoveling and push or sweep rather than lifting and throwing. Another suggestion is o use a snow blower when at all possible. One other thing the article passed on was to stretch before shoveling and stay hydrated.
I am making chili for dinner.
