January 6, 2025 a thought for today, A thing learned in childhood is proven in old age. Hebrew Proverb

The first upload for yesterday was “cheer”. I looked to see what some of my peers in the club were using and checked with a google search. Almost exclusively it was some kind of toast with a wine or other such toast. So that was the hint I took and used.

The second upload was “my choice”. I used one of my series of “ partial” . It turned out to be one of partial series. It turned out to be one of my poinsettia plants.

The next upload was “on my plate”. I don’t normally eat much of a breakfast. But on this particular morning I was hungry and thought French toast sounded good

The last upload for yesterday, one of the days I have four uploads, was “still life”. I have used my house plants so often. I had used some of the grapes and part of the apples that I got from the store to make Waldorf Salad. I had some left and arranged a dish for this still life image.

Life today. This is probably the biggest snow we have had in many years. I had to go out as soon a I got up to try my best to at least knock the snow down a little in a short path way. Sweet Pea needed to have a path to do her business without her tummy dragging along the snow.

Brian came by to shovel the snow and clear the cars, mine and Sues. I had him come in to get warm and have a cup of hot chocolate before going back out to finish.

The first upload for today is “sky”. The day was mostly overcast so I used my archives again. This one was taken on a nice warm summer day on my way to Mt. Sterling.

I spent a big part of the morning on the bulletin. I got it complete and sent out to be proof read.  Then I worked on some photos for uploads. With the weather the way it is right now a lot of my photos will be from the archives. I take photos with later uploads in mind. I have been with the photo a day clubs for several years now and know what many of the “assignments” will be. I try not to repeat the individual image upload but sometimes I can’t resist if the image fits perfectly.

It looks like I will be staying in at least for the next two or three days. I think I can get out of the driveway but I’m not so sure of the streets out to Broad Street. I know the city doesn’t usually clear residential streets but hopefully they will since this was such a major snow fall. Hopefully the street is much clearer by Thursday when it is time to print the bulletin.

I just took break to make some homemade biscuits for the creamed chicken I am planning on making for dinner.

The next upload today is “evergreen and snow”. I like the position of this tree. The snow was an added benefit.

The word today is repeat. Twice and thrice over, as they say, good is it to repeat and review what is good. Plato.  Reproof, especially as it relates to children, administered in all gentleness, will render the culprit not afraid, but ashamed to repeat the offence. Hosea Ballou.  The phrases that men hear or repeat continually, end by becoming convictions and ossify the organs of intelligence. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.  I repeat... that all power is a trust; that we are accountable for its exercise; that from the people and for the people all springs, and all must exist. Benjamin Disraeli.  If these poems repeat themselves, then so does Spring. Rumi.  That which we do not believe, we cannot adequately say; even though we may repeat the words ever so often. Ralph Waldo Emerson.  What the first philosopher taught the last will have to repeat. Henry David Thoreau.  That is never too often repeated, which is never sufficiently learned. Lucius Annaeus Seneca.  History, we know, is apt to repeat itself, and to foist very old incidents upon us with only a slight change of costume. George Eliot.  A heart-memory is better than a mere head-memory. Better to carry away a little of the love of Christ in our souls, than if we were able to repeat every word of every sermon we ever heard. Saint Francis de Sales.  Opponents fancy they refute us when they repeat their own opinion and pay no attention to ours. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.  Several classical sayings that one likes to repeat had quite a different meaning from the ones later times attributed to them. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

The last upload for today is “free”....my choice. I was in black and white mode on the camera and liked the lines in this image without the color.

Article: I couldn’t find much in the “news” today so I just picked this one. Technology is moving along, I thinks it’s good to keep up with what they are doing and talking about. I think it also may relate some that to this weather we are experiencing...the unusually recent hot summer and this massive snow fall. This one is about the use of fossil fuel and how plans are in place to replace or at least reduce them. According to this article it seems to be difficult to get completely away from them. The article also relates that they are largely “the leading driver of climate change, yet they are still heavily subsidized by governments around the world”. They are “relatively inexpensive” to use and seem to contribute to greenhouse gas emission. There are several studies about how to reduce and replace fossil fuels. One of the plans to help in the effort took place with the “2022 Inflation Reduction Act, for example, squeaked through Congress by subsidizing both renewable energy and oil and gas production”. Electric vehicles are another of the efforts in the works. I learned in the article that “today’s petroleum subsidies can be traced to the Great Depression”. “Estimates of the total value of global fossil fuel subsidies vary considerably”. One of the problems in reducing their use is the affects on the economy. The article mentioned that “even in countries where there is widespread support for robust climate policies, reducing subsidies can be deeply unpopular and may even cause public unrest”. It went on to say the “increasing the price of fossil fuels can lower demand, reducing emissions that are driving climate change and harming the environment and human health.....price spikes present an opportunity for reform”.

I think creamed chicken on biscuits for dinner.
